Cheapskate.......?
Discussion
Not far from me there's an exhaust place who will make up full or part custom exhausts as required.
Assuming that one has had significant expense on a variety of items recently, and that one would like one's LS2 to sound a bit more like, well, an LS2 but was finding the costs of a Monkfish or similar exhaust a little more than they wished to spend for the time being, would there be any downsides in asking said exhaust shop to make up some rear sections which attach at the joint just in front of the rear wheels and do away with the big back boxes? If these were, say, 2 or 3 hundred quid?
Just a thought!

Mufflers are there to deaden the sound, resonators are there as expansion chambers to terminate exhaust pulses for optimal scavenging from the exhaust port, headers are there to provide the correct flow and tuned lengths to optimise engine power over a certain range.
It all works as a unit really. Check out this excellent article if you are designing your own setup. http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/art...

Lets face it though.
All these theorys are very good, and indeed some exhausts do perform better than others.
But ultimately space under the car dictates everything. From pipe lengths, paths, and silencer locations.
That said, to a degree you get what you pay for.
Certainly you could get the exhaust shop to do whatever you want, until you could afford a proper system.
I dont know what the shop is...but I'll use local Powerflow dealers here as an example. They cant bend properly, and they use cheap shite thickwall "stainless" tubing.
Maybe its a local thing...but I doubt it. As both their dealers here in NI are the same, although admittedly, one is worse than the other.
If however this shop has a very good reputation, and can do proper mandrel bends, and use proper high quality stainless tubing ( 1.5mm wall max ) then fire away if its what you want.
But it would be a shame to throw cheap crap on such a nice car.....
Not all the UK people stock them, but there are a variety of different exhausts available.
Do a search on http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9 down under.
If the Wortec item doesnt suit your needs for whatever reason, Im sure some of the UK guys could sort you with some Aussie stuff...if you dont just buy direct.

I haven't tried others but the Wortec Cat back system (Sport Pac) is superb in every respect. It looks and fits great, quiet when cruising and loud-as-you-like when you put your boot down.
Alternatively I've heard Hayward and Scott are very good for custom fabrications.
Consider that any changes to the exhaust system may require a remap which is another benefit of the Wortec Sport Pac.

out of interest how low do the cats on the wortec system hang if you have long tube headers? Mine sit fairly low but dont leave much clearance about them so altering the angle of the mid section upwards slightly could cause knocking
has anyone got a side on shot under their car of the wortec cats connected to long tubes as I might look at those in future as a possible replacement - my other option being to remove and weld in some new slim line cats if available.

Except if you have an 04 VXR without centre boxes. The bumper unique to the 60 or so imported means it resonates and booms like a double bass and you can barely hear yourself think. It only happens at 1,900 RPM but that is 60mph in 6th!It doesn't bother me enough to go quiet though
