My idler puuley has failed frown Well the bearing has anyway. Fortunately for me I was at the end of my road but trying to reverse the car with no power steering was a task. I am so lucky it did not happen miles away or it would have been a recovery truck to get me home. Its the idler pulley that is bolted to the alternator bracket.

Those long metal slugs are supposed to be round ball-brearings eek Weird, no noise to tell me about it, just a sudden warning light.

Does anyone know if the bearing is pressed in or if the bearing can be replaced on its own without the pulley?

Also it looks like it has damaged the alluminium bracket that holds the bearing when it failed which could mean a whole new alternator bracket.

Looking at the way the two plate-shaped washers act, I am hoping that they are what supports the weight against the bearing wall and that once tightened it should be ok.

So I guess I am looking for a bracket a bearing and an idler at worse. Any pointers greatly received.

I'll get an exact part number if need be, as I recently replaced mine.

But its basically a 3203, fully sealed, double row angular contact bearing. The numbers on the bearing will not match up with any listings, as they will claim this is a dealer only part.

And yes, it presses in.

40mm OD, 17mm ID, and 17.5mm wide

If you are having trouble(I doubt it as it is mainly the same as the Monaro) getting the bits for the SS, Let us know! Have to stick together the SS people!

Cheers Steve, a price and a part number would be great.

Thanks motomk I am hoping that I can source parts from either Monkfish or my local VXR dealer.

It feels odd not having a working car but at least I have the bike smile

When I had my GTSR I replaced my idle pulleys for new, not that expensive, took the old unit to local bearing supplier and they managed to match up bearing no problem and got it sorted at very low price (under £8)old bearing was in a bad way (not like yours though!!).
Had look for old unit but no longer have it due to clear out when sold HSV.
Word of wisdom if one of your bearings has failed on pulleys replace your others asap the engine bay heat and the fact there sealed for life bearings would say others more than likely will expire due to nil lubrication left. Doing job DIY no biggy either, pretty sure Roger (monkfish) or Mark (Rapid) will have bits or part No's. Or go to bearing supplier they can source/size.

Good luck
Nick

This is what I used ( old SKF bearing pictured beside the box of the new Koyo )

I cant honestly remember price, but I think it was about £15-25 sourced locally.

Not sure why the part no is as it is, but it IS a 3203 bearing.
