Hopefully not a repost!

Well, these guys reckon it's a Camaro underneath the cut down Commordore platfrom. That would make sense as we know it's due next year........but did they have to make the window quite as close to the old Monaro?

That's the 2nd picture I've seen; it's a shortened Zeta platform (hence the rear door looking off) and it's pretty much certain that that is the first Camaro test mule.

Hopefully soon we'll begin to see the actual camo'd cars appearing (although works aren't finished on the tooling so it may take a while).

Yep, thats just a mule for testing as Holden are doing the development work for the Camaro.
It will basically be a shortened VE Commodore platform underneath a Camaro body.

I guess it's just ironic that this may be the closest we ever get to a true Monaro replacement....a cut n shut to test the Camaro. frown

Still, as the new Camaro is one of the best looking muscle cars I've ever seen, I won't complain too much.

Apparently the car used for Bumblebee in the Transformers movie was actually a REPLICA of the Camaro concept, they put the Camaro concpet body on ^^^ that platform (the commodore one - possibly the one pictured above). Cant remember where I read that. Or was is it a documentary?

Anyhoo....

Is there any confirmation that Holden will produce a true Monaro variant? And if not will GM bring the Camaro to Britain via Chevrolet or Vauxhall dealers? I know where i'd rather buy from..... (

Ive read that the Camaro will be available in RHD. Whether Holden rebadge it like the Pontiac GTO was who knows. But I cant see GM these days developing 2 rwd coupe's with IRS at the same time, Makes no sense.
Camaro production is supposed to start Oct08 with availability Q1-09, coupe first then later on convertable.

AT least if it is rebadged it will have a few Holden genes and presumably then GM would bring in the Holden version throuhg the existing dealer vauxhall dealer network rather than introdicuing a requirement for LS2/7 knowledge into a new dealer base....

I doubt it will be an LS2 actually. Latest suggestion is the LS3. LS2 is pretty much obsolete.

It won't be rebadged either. Remember, this is the Chevy Camaro - it's about as iconic as a muscle car can get and I can't see it being renamed for other countries.

Besides, I like the golden flag - can't wait!

I was thinking that for the Australian market Holden might rework it slighty and release it as a Monaro. Not the same as developing two different IRS RWD muscle cars, but if done right the resultant Monaro would sell better there than a Chevy Camaro.

Yes Bath thats what I think too. Swap some trim and badges and call it a Monaro. The name holds more weight in Oz as thats what they are used to there, not Camaro's.
Over here its a different story, will be interesting which way they decide to go as Vauxhall have been pushing the Monaro name since 2003, the old Camaro's died out before then and didnt really get the positive press the Monaro did, so maybe it will be a VX8 or something Vauxhally?

Chevy are selling it here - not Vauxhall. They've already said as much - in fact, ALL new Chevy models will be coming here in RHD; including the next Vette. Cool.

Bumblebee was a GTO (5.7, '04 model) with the exact molds from the concept used to create the body. So when you watch it, you're watching a Monaro. smile

I heard that when Chevy Camaro does come to UK it will be marketed through Cadillac dealers the same as Corvette is. Probably a better move than putting it in a showroom with Matiz and Tacuma. I can't imagine anyone going to buy one and coming out with the other. Still might leave room for a badge engineered Monaro then as well.
