Hello guys,
I currently own a 350z, however the need for 4 seats has meant I'm looking for something new.

I am looking to buy a Monaro VXR '56 plate and was wondering what the service costs are like and if anyone recommends any dealerships for servicing (Strathclyde area). From the information I have found, it seems relatively inexpensive to service the car.

I test drove one yesterday and was mighty impressed, they were looking for 25k for a '56 with 6700 miles on the clock.

Cheers

Servicing is extremely cheap give the car's stature... Expect to pay about £200 tops for usual servicing stuff (Oil, Filters etc)

Whilst the rear seats are a dream to sit in regardless of your size, they`re self loading only so if its for youngsters that need help you may find the seats are just too far away to reach in and sort.

Shouldn't be a problem... by the time the seats have finally moved forward, the kids will be old enough to drive hehe

servicing in Scotlands a bit awkward - Belmont, Edinburgh are the only official dealer and they don't have the best rep. Personally I use my local dealer and supply them with the parts and instructions. Most of its fairly trivial anyway and can be handled by any decent mechanic. Be good to have another Scottish owner on here- we're few and far between up here. Give us a shout if you go ahead and buy one - btw you may want to look at www.pistonheads.com/sales/210830.htm - I was looking at a deal for this one but they weren't offering what I wanted as a trade in against it

For the last three years my little one has used the rear of the Monaro. The pain is they cannot see out of the windows that well which induces travel sickness.... driving normally honest!!

Thanks for the reply guys.
No kids, so I'm ok on that front.......just now
Regarding servicing, the place I've been dealing with has 2 for sale. I'd be looking for them to service it before I bought it as it due one in about 3 months. The car I'm looking at is being used/owned by the owner of the garage, so I'd hope they could sort this out, they are a vauxhall garage. He got the brakes changed under warranty himself as he said they were juddering, apparently due to over torquing the wheel bolts causing distortion on the disk. Anyway sounds like he has cared for it.

Apparently an Arnold Clark dealer in Glasgow stocks parts, so I'm wondering whether the same one (whoever it is) offers servicing.

The black one posted was on my list and looks a great buy, as you say though depends on the trade in, I've been offered 16k on the Z. I still don't know whether to buy as I love my Z, but I love the whole idea of having a Monaro....

Thanks again!

I think I know the garage you mean - used to be owned by Jackie Stewart apparently - they have 2 in that slow silver colour, the one he's driving and a delivery mileage one that hasnt moved in about 3 months last I checked. Previous to the silver VXR he was driving a fast black 04 cv8. The Arnold Clark dealer in Glasgow he's talking about is probably the one on Hamilton Road in the east end that has 3 VXR8's in stock at the moment - its about 1 mile from the end of the M74. Personally I wouldn't let any Arnold Clark dealer near my car for servicing - I don't mind buying them from him as he's cheap but thats the end of the relationship I have with them - warranty work etc all done elsewhere. With regards parts - I'm sure there are a couple of southern dealers on here would happily discuss shipping any non warranty stuff you needed.

I did hte same, sold my 350z for the more practical Ro. Servicing as said is cheap but tuning isnt! Take some out for drives first as they are completely different to the Zed when it comes to handling. Brute force is way higher but the Zed handled in a different league

Are the majority of owners on here using there car at weekends or on a daily basis? It would be my daily car, but I only do 20 miles a day...

I do a mixture of both. Sometimes I leave it for a weeek or 2, other times I use it every day

20 miles a day though, I'd look at something else tbh!

My Z averages 24mpg, and I don't boot it TBH. If I can get 20mpg from the Monaro then no worries IMO

dream again unless those distances are nice open non busy nsl a-roads!

On the motorway you will get around that but around town you may as well have shares in BP!

Get the 'ro. You'll love it! If you're using dual carriageways, you'll get 20 easily. By the way, amazingly, a Wortec exhaust and remap gives better fuel consumption. Best excuse ever for a real exhaust!

Supercharged car here and a new owner - over 20mpg is easy with a mixture of slow and fast work.... some people must have lead right feet!
