Anyone else had issues with the fuel filler cap?

Filled up yesterday and though cap came off fine when I screwed it back down although it clicks as before it doesn't seem to engage any kind of lock. (i.e. I can pull it back off)

Have pulled it out complete with tether for now (and replaced with a temporary one) and can't see anything obviously wrong, though it does rattle which is generally not a positive sign biggrin

I had this problem when filling up once. The cap seemed to lock but I could just pull it off so it wasn't locked on. Turned out I was pressing the cap on way too hard whilst I turned it. Try not pressing too much when turning to cap and see if it works then.

The good news is that the technique detailed above worked...

The not so good news is that now it won't come off banghead

So, anyone know how to get a stuck cap off biggrin

try looking under teh cap with a cigarette lighter to aide visibility. This usually gets them off a treat

Ah right thanks. If that doesn't work should I try a blowtorch?

dont be silly, they are made of plastic and would melt

of course you could try the old AA scret weapon of hitting it with a hammer.

All no use to you as I am sure you are aware but the twist in this thread from your original issue to your new one is giggle worthy

Scoobaro - really sorry for getting your petrol cap stuck on. Can only defend myself by saying it worked OK for me. Perhaps try pushing the cap harder to get it off? Actually maybe it's best not to try things I suggest in future!

Woo hoo its off.

Just did it very very gently with no real downward pressure and off it came, now consigned to my boot and replaced by a temporary cap.

Let us never speak us this again. biggrin
