Differences between Monaros
Discussion
I guess this has probably been done a few times before, but with a salesman breathing down my neck... Is it worth going for the VXR over a standard 5.7?
Having driven a 5.7 (Sep 2006) and was very impressed, but while I was happy with the power and delivery and wasn't that chuffed with the brakes.
Looking at the discs and callipers on the VXR8 in the forecourt, those on the 5.7 were puny in comparison. The way I see it do get a suitable upgrade fitted I'd be pushing toward VXR money anyway, so would it be sensible to get the VXR in the first place?
Also, I understand that the VXR had improved suspension, is this true and what were the improvements?

The brakes on the 5.7s are not exactly the best!
You have two options, source some VXR brakes which can be had for a couple of hundred quid or go for the APs which around around £2,500.
Yes, the suspension is different in the VXR but I will leave that to the experts to let you know the difference.
It depends on what you want from the Monaro, if you are going to leave it fairly stock then might as well go for the VXR, if you are going to modify it a lot then I would sway towards the 5.7 as a lot of the goodies on the VXR will probably be replaced anyway

I totally agree
Stock car it would 'probably' be worth paying the premium for a VXR. Once you go modding then both cars get very similar in performance and it would appear a re tune and exhaust does more for the CV8 than VXR.
You also have the shapes to decide on.
my missus things the vxr looks nicer with the spoilers and nostrils, personally I prefer the clean look without
modding, go for 5.7 as the money saved would go further on the mods and there is little difference if you go for big mods when it comes to power between the two
fairly stock and the power of the 6.0 stock is about what the 5.7 gets tuned. Its only when you go supercharger does the difference seem to close a bit

Totally agree with the above except try and get the 05-> CV8 if you are going to, it has the bonnet nostrils, a fly-by-wire throttle, bigger brakes and more power than the 04 model. However, it also has a smaller boot which is a pain in the arse if it's your main car.
If you plan to tune it (and you blooming well should) get the CV8 and take it to RapidGB or Monkfish for a 9/12psi Supercharger, the results are astonishing and you will always remember your first "moment" when you booted it too soon out of a roundabout!
VXRs are for girls

Hmm, for me then it sounds as if the VXR6 is the way to go then, as I'm not too worried about tuning and this will be my sensible everyday car, so as long I know it handles and stops well when used on track (and heavily on road) I'll be content.
I do like the more subtle bonnet and styling of the CV8 mind you, it does ultimate Q car so well.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought the standard brakes on the CV8 aren't great, the salesman wasn't too chuffed at my heavy braking during the test drive especially when I told him the stopping was the only fault from my point of view.

if it is at a Vauxhall dealer, try to get a Network Q gtee; they give a years cover on brakes , battery and clutch!!!
The only reason for going to a dealer
I'm seeing a good number of unrealistic private pricings, with cars cheaper inside the Vauxhall network, so right now it's a bit of a no-brainer!

I have just had new discs and pads from them.
I doubt they cover the pads though and everything else is standard fit for purpose shite anyway.I have just had new discs and pads from them.
OK the battery could be classed as a consumable
