Hi everyone,
I thought it would be a great idea to try and arrange a trip to the Algarve in July/August 2008 for everyone with Monaro's and VXR8's and anyone else who can keep up and any other VXR owners. Leave the UK in the last few days of July then return back home around the 14th August.

Option 1: The trip will start at Plymouth and board a ferry to Santander Spain with is a 22 hours crossing. Then drive from Santander Spain down to the Algarve which is 630 miles.

Option 2: The other option would be to drive to the channel tunnel in folkestone Kent and get the cars on the train to Calais then drive the 1400 miles to the Algarve which would save the £750 price for the ferry. This option would take just as long as the ferry but we will need to have an overnight stay somewhere in France.

I might even try and see if i can arrange a afternoons track time at the Estoril F1 Grand Prix circuit near Lisbon Portugal ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aut%C3%B ) . As long as we can get there on a free day and as long as they don’t want to charge us to much.
Stay in Vilamoura or Praia Da Rocha for 7 nights then drive back to Santander (North Spain) or Calais (France) for the ferry/Train home.

Let me know if anyone would be interested. I’m going to get some prices for the ferry and hotels to stay in.
Also I’m going to try and arrange a meeting at a hotel near the beach in the Algarve for a group meeting of everyone who has driven down.

The more things i want to do on this trip which started out as me and my girlfriend driving to the Algarve is starting to sound more like a vxrbull rally 2008 lol

Post your comments and interest here or email me at andy@toomeygroup.co.uk

Would love to do this trip Andy but I am on shift on 5th August so times unsuitable for me. 17th July on is okay but you obviously have your dates fixed too. Hope you get a few takers for what will no doubt be a great break!

Regards, Jeff.

Hi Jeff
I can go any time even the start of July. I work from home and any dates are fine with me then we can start our epic adventure.

I would be up for this. I did the FB5k this year and it was brilliant fun, but a tad expensive.

Probably cant come, but if you go to Portugal, don't get tempted into having one of their stone cooked steaks, you just wouldn't like them. Only joking, have two for me; my son didn't like his so unfortunately someone had to finish it, it was a dirty job but it just had to be done.... You can't get them here, but they're great! If it comes off, post up the photos! (Not the steaks, I know what they're like.....)

Been thinking of doing this type of trip for a couple of years, every since I got back from a 2800 mile round France, Italy, Austria and Germany! Really appeals to me as I have some kind of girly fear of flying, but at 120 mph in Italian traffic I am totally unphased

hmm option 2 might be fun if I can work the holidays out to suit. Maybe could do both with the 2 groups meeting up on the way down?

Does it have to be a VXR? Could an ordinary Monaro tag along?

Don't worry, if you read Essexs starting post you will see he has invited anyone who can "keep up" as well as Monaro's, VXR's etc. I'm sure we'll sneak in somewhere!
