With all the talk about gearboxs on a topic recently posted, I checked my 05 Monaro(face lift) it has a MM6, Is this a bad gearbox? i'm confused.. whats the real world difference?
I've tried to find out the dark past of my car in relation to a replacemnt front offside wing/fender/mudguard. The car was registered by Vauxhall in September 2006.I bought the car in August of this year with 6000 miles on the clock. I contacted Vauxhall via telephone and E-mail, I contacted the dealer I purchased the car from, the answer was the same they can't help...
Surely someone can trace the history of the car? The registration number was KY56TMU,any taker's ?

The difference is the shorter ratios. Every thing else is the same. I whole-heartedly recommend you change it. It really does enhance the car and for around £2K total is competitive with the costs of other mods. P/n 92155485 (TUET2066) www.gmpartsdirect.com listing it for just £1300, a quarter of what Vauxhall's want!

Thats the price you pay for the part in USA, then you ship it. Say it costs £250 to get it here. You should then pay import duties of 3% and VAT of 17.5%
To add up the real cost
£1300+£250(shipping)+£340(import duty, customs fees and VAT)
Which gives you a total of £1890. The supplier will probably need you to return the box if you have any issues. I believe there are a few people who have had gearboxes replaced by Vauxhall because there were issues with them.
I have driven all the Monaro variants and there are much more significant difference's than the gear ratios. I have changed the diff ratio in my car from 3.73 to 3.91 which is much more noticeable than the variants in gearbox ratio.

3.73 is approx 8% different and 3.91 13% over the standard 3.46. The gearbox differences vary between the actual gear selected but on average is about equivalent to a 3.91 diff. The gearbox spread is better with 2nd being 16% lower - great for exiting roundabouts. Gm/Holden themselves chose to change the gearbox rather than the diff. It is only because of a Vauxhall cock up that CV8s in Britain didn't have the box same as the VXR. They got the brochure right - just got the car wrong...

But you and others have said the box was used so the car would passed UK drive by noise regulations......how would that be a Co*k up? sounds like they used the most cost effective way of getting the updated CV8 into the country......
