My 05 CV8 seems to suffer from axle tramp. Being a well balance rear wheel drive car, usually traction is not a problem. But when traction is lost it scuffs and thumps which doesn't feel very good. Even with the traction control off you immediately throttle off in mechanical sympathy. I also have a 1997 Mustang 4.6 auto. In contrast this wheel spins easily and cleanly. It does of course have a live axle and no locking differential. The Monaro is on its second set of Bridgestone Potenza RE040s as originally fitted, size 235/40ZR18. The Mustang has Firestone SVXs P225/55ZR16. Would tyre choice make any difference? Are there any mods or even is anything faulty? Rear tyre wear is nice and even.
Monkfish fitted the Harrop diff cover to my car.
No more axle tramp
As well as increased oil capacity, it has additional mounting points which hold the diff in place more securely.
