Ok, I'm bored. Had a few new games for Xmas.

The superb PGR4 and the fab Call Of Duty 4 (mated up to a digital stereo system, this game gets better).

Been playing against my son on COD4 via wireless system link and it's great (ok, I'm crap) playing against 'live' competition (actually he's pasting me and he's only 9)

Anybody else from here online just in case I come across you in a game (so I can be nice to you!) I'm not a 'serious pro' player, just someone who plays for some fun and when I get some time to myself (as anybody who looks at my game profile will see!)

Hopefully see some of you out there....

drunkastradude is my gamertag on the 360....on COD4 you can spot the PH guys quite easily as most of us have the [PH] clan tag showing up in front of our user names wink

Call me stupid (after your answers) but is it a tv screen I need to play online, or can this be done via pc/monitor?

I've bought the xbox live pack, but haven't bothered to hook it up. (or even look it up).

COD4 is just plain awesome.....

The AC-130 scene is worth the money just for that!

Yes, it's scarily close to the Apache footage from the Iraq invasion right down to the com chatter between pilot/navigator & gunners. (the film where the helicopter is about 2 miles away watching an Iraqi arms drop moments before 'dusting' said insurgents).

Probably 'just' beats Halo 3. Didn't used to be an FPS fan, but COD4 converted me!

Gears of War last November (2006) was what made me go buy an xbox360, played it at a friends one night and was in pcworld picking up the console and game the very next afternoon once that silly thing called work was out of the way...if you haven't played it then keep an eye out for it going cheap on the likes of play dot com etc as it's a great shooter too smile

I personally hated the earlier CoD releases (played 2 on friends system and have 3 myself - came with the 360 bundle I bought in Nov 06), but I love CoD4 so much so that I picked it up and played the main game through to completion in the space of a day and a half - xmas holibags mean loads of free time and I got so hooked into it that I wouldn't put the controller down when the rest of the house went to bed and even when I got moaned at the next morning for still being up playing it laugh

Playing online with the rest of the PH lads and some friends from Scotland and Ireland now and when they're not online I'm working my way through the game again on Veteran setting... smile

Forza Motorsport is another good title (PS3 as well?), supposed to have more accurate handling dynamics (pah! the VXR Monaro handles like a sack of spuds on ice and acceleration sucks) but PGR is yet another cool title on 'Live' esp with the Force Feedback wheel which, btw, I've just found out is subject to a recall 'cos they go on fire otherwise, it's a must have' for your racing games!

The reason I posed the original question is that I've noticed over the last few months that some of our colonial cousins from across the pond, don't seem to have the British sense of 'fair play' and you all seem a rather jolly bunch of nice chaps (or even chapesses)

Anyway, any of you named above mind if I add you to my 'friends' list as I go along? I promise not to stalk you or do anything else that might suggest I would want to date you...

Cheers

(guess we'd better end this thread soon before someone flames us - but in my defence I did talk about racing games that include Monaro's)

Forza IS good as a simulator but I find it ultimately boring beyond belief. I am going to get PGR4 instead. Forza can be fun and is, it just takes a lot of effort and the returning fun factor is, to me, something hard to work for.

Aces Combat 6 is VERY good btw as a flight action sim shooter - also has online play for something different.

I'm on live too 'Kerb Monster'

Forza 2 is great but is a sim so needs some investment. The best way to play it is to switch all the driver aids off and then the handling really comes alive. You'll also get better lap times (and accusations of cheating) as the driver aids cut in quite early killing alot of car's performance. Of course there are some looney cars that are almost impossible to drive (Ligenfelter Corvette comes to mind)

PG3 was a bit dull as every car seemed much the same as all the others. Not had a decent chance to play PG4 and apart from the bikes (which I hate) it's a much better all round game. Snow / Rain driving is fun.

Not got COD4 but on the list

Gear of War is frankly a stunning and beautiful if rather short game. It is back to the days of games being *hard* to do and it's not frightened of killing you. Co-op is stunning and the story fun too. Can't wait for gears of war "0" and gears of war 2. Great TV ad too

Halo 3 - Same as GOW. A stunning game (and on legendary a very difficult one) that is just too short. Co-op not as fun as 2 or more Spartan's just cut through pretty much everything even on the toughest levels. The plot isn't the best nor are the graphics but still a worthwile purchase.

As for playing strangers on live... yeah, it's true. The sterotypes seem quite strong.
Younger US players just scream abuse when they lose and then scream even more abuse when they win. There's just no middle ground .
Dutch players are generally verrry chilled out
Italians start to talk very quickly and get louder the more emotional they get. Note: keep away from playing itailans at football games - it gets a little crazy

After a few years I prefer to play with a smaller group of people I know as at least you know you can get a good game.

I play on easy  but Halo3 was very short and the ending was a joke! Multiplayer is still very good though!

My son has Halo 3 (got it for Xmas) and he's hardly played it, says that even GoW is better.

Stig: PGR4 is better in the fact that you now have the added features of variable weather conditions and either day or night driving. Cone challenges are still in, but cones aren't as brightly (glowing) marked. They are now simple, proper motorway flashing type which at speed are a lot easier to miss/confuse. In car view is more detailed but actual vehicle damage is still lacking. Also get bonus rounds in career mode to drive various other top marques on different tracks to break up the monotomy of the career build up. Good one is drive a 1950's racing car on the 'ring in the snow. No ABS or suitably tweaked suspension adds to the fun! Opposing AI seems a bit better, but is a total joke in Amateur mode as no challenge at all.

On Forza 2, yes turning off driver aids does add to it, but I still find the dynamics strangely 'iffy'.

Best game for 'pack' driving and good competition was TOCA 3 on original Xbox Live. Shame they haven't got around to 'backwards' compatability on that one.

Basically to get the best out of these games is to go 'live' against other users who 'nicely' set up some nasty tracks, horrendous class of cars you loathe (ie can't drive), crap weather conditions and then get 'bumped' out of the session 'cos of your nationality..

I'm a big CoD4 fan, but on the PC - I've never been able to get the whole FPS without a keyboard and mouse ... Anyways, I'm up to major in rank now - it's such good fun

I have given up on live - not used it at all on the 360 other for playing with friends. Pretty much for the above reasons.

Toca on live for example - full damage mode the lot and I would always hang fire at the back of the track and wait for the inevitable crash and just sail to the lead. Then get booted off. The Australians were the absolute worse for this! That isnt because this is an Australian forum I am saying it based on experience as I used to race mostly the Australian tracks (they were the best)! The Americans would just scream "gonna rape you" and be mostly 6 years old, the English were just " this you " all the time.

Bought a 360 for Halo3, but agree its far too short. GOW is amazing, as is Bioshock.
Got given a free PS3 with my TV and it barely gets a look in. (looks purdy beside the TV though biggrin)
Due to the mass appreciation going on, COD4 may have to be purchased shortly.
Forza ain't bad, still more 'fun' that Gran Turismo IMO. And hey, it does have the 'Ro!
