Is there such a thing as shadow-chrome wheel touch up paint?
After driving nearly 1000 miles in the last week without incident, I managed to scuff one of the wheels on a kerb 5 minutes from home censored censored censored
Luckily it's on a wheel that's already looking a bit shabby and looks to have had some non-original paint applied to it in the past, so I may well get the whole thing replaced/refurbished. How rare and/or expensive are 5.7VXR wheels?

No, there isn't a touch up paint for these wheels.

I've just had to have a scuff done on my VZ VXR alloy. The wheel is primarily sprayed black with a *very* thin layer of metallic silver applied over the top so that the black undercoat colour just shows through followed by a layer of lacquer.

The wheel restorer has done a pretty good job although he did have to apply a layer of lacquer over the entire face of the wheel to help blend it in more. My scratch/scuff was about 9 inches long and had just started to go past the black layer down to the alloy.

The job cost me £76.00 for the scratch area, full smooth and respray the entire face of the alloy would cost about £95 (just added this bit for general info).

I can't believe anyone could charge so much for that! I had all 4 of mine shotblasted and the entire wheel painted for £200. Shop around I would say.

Trust me, I don't have much of an option down here. If I send the wheel back to my dealer(which would be a wise move you'd think for accurate paint codes etc) they only screw it up - hell they couldn't even match the Yellow on my car (came out of the body shop orange and the lame excuse was the plastic parts on my car are different shades anyway! the subsequent respray has now totally faded!) Oh yes, back to the wheel;

What I was after was a proper match, only option as you say, is to get them all shotblasted and all redone but the guy was closest (50 miles) and I drove over to see his other work before I let him loose on it. Not an ideal situation and I did shop around, but most other places ie bodyshops around here won't touch alloy wheels, they all seem to send them away.

But to sum up, totally agree with V6's comment, shop about but I would insist on seeing the repairers facilities and other work they've done if you really care for your pride and joy.

So you're both basically saying there's no option but to get the whole lot done all at once? Seems a bit crap
Question is, is it better & cheaper to get an unmarked original wheel than get it all repaired (ie. bodged, in my eyes)?
I'll live with it for now, but I know it's going to annoy me every time I see the left-hand side of my 'ro

See if you can pick up one off e-bay. That's what I did and I now have a spare ready to go for when the inevitable crunch comes

Depends on the state of the rest of your wheels. If the company you find are good, they should be able just to do the one wheel and match the paint to the rest.

I know that CV8/VXR alloy paint finishes are generally very poor (my original 05 CV8 set were showing signs of paint (lifting/bubbling etc) and that a few owners (V6 JDT one of the few) have had their full wheel sets shotblasted and repainted to a better standard than factory.
