I'd post a link but it doesn't seem to want to work
Anyone know anything about the 2004 quicksilver 5.7 VXR Monaro on autotrader at the mo?
Is it a club car or known to the club? Can't see it being around too long at that price unless there's something amiss. Or, have prices really come down?
Any info greatly appreciated PM if needs be
cheers

Hi all,
I'm just new to the forum and guess this must have been the car that I bought two weeks ago. Not surprisingly I still have a massive grin on my face.
I had been looking for an 04 or 54 plate VXR for a while, because we have a wee boy of nearly 2 (who loves it!) and another on the way. The large size boot was an absolute must, and meant a newer model just wasn't going to work for us.
The car itself is in brilliant condition, done 19k miles, cost me only £14k, and I love it. There is only one minor problem, with one of the center LCD lines not working on the dash display when you use the options menu. It means I can't see some of the different options properly. If anyone can tell me what order the options come up in each time you press menu, it would be much appreciated.
I have just registered for the Brands Hatch event, so look forward to catching up with some of you at the end of March.
Cheers

PS: You probably guessed from my username that I'm originally from NZ. My family has been in loads of different Holdens and HSVs since before I was even born (33 years ago). I might even start a list of them when I get a chance.
My father is getting his brand new VE Holden Calais delivered this week which he is over the moon about.

After this morning, I decided I'm off cricket... and after the world cup, Rubgy is a sore point. THANK GOD FOR HSV's!!
As for the boot, it's all the junk that seems to come with us whenever we leave the house. Too much additional weight in the boot might just be a good reason to up the bhp...

How I know that the later VXR has better gear ratios is not relevant. Fact is it does. I've changed the ratios in my CV8 and it is loads better so it follows it must be for the VXR to. Why else would Holden have changed it?
It doesn't matter if you fit a supercharger as the extra torque easily pulls the long ratios and you maintain the fuel economy.
Who else got a 5.7 VXR? I'd love some insight into the essential pac from wortec. I can see the definite value in upgrading the CV8 as the changes achievable look huge (55 bhp for a re-map!), but I am undecided about how much difference it will make to a VXR for £500.

Well max LS1 rating from HSV was 285kw or 380bhp. I think the VXR 5.7 is the same thing. You will gain a bit but certainly not as much as the basically same physical base CV8.
If you are wanting significantly more power it may be better to consider other power add options. I see Mr Monkfish has a 5.7L SC on special at present for example.

Hi kiwifraser,
Good choice of car! I also have a 5.7 VXR which was standard when I bought it last September. I've since had the Wortec Performance Pac fitted, which included the remap, although to be honest I had it done mainly for the louder exhaust!
I think it's supposed to give an extra 40bhp or so, which takes it up to around 420bhp. Not sure how much this is noticeable in normal everyday driving. However the biggest improvement I've found is the increase in low-end torque, which manifests itself in the real world as being noticeably easier to lose traction at lowish speeds, and more usefully means that 6th gear is much more usable when cruising on motorways.

My CV8 (354bhp)produced 379 fwbhp after a sport pac which consists of a remap, filter, airbox mod and Wortec cat-back. That's just 25bhp over standard so don't get too carried away. I think 440bhp out of an LS1 without FI or serious engine work is optimistic.
Also, BIGCol has a 5.7 VXR and with the same SC setup his produces less power than mine (on the same dyno) even though his is supposed to be more powerful as standard. The quoted figures do not apply the same to every car and I'd be amazed to see 50bhp from just a remap.

Cheers all. The advice is much appreciated.
The general concensus seems to be that it will basically give me a bit more torque down low, and an extra few horses (but I won't necessarily notice the power difference in normal road driving).
The wortec description also mentions better sound, but i'm not quite sure how that works with just a re-map (induction noise??)
Anyway for my case, and given the fact I don't plan to change the exhaust (not yet anyway!), the £500 to have the re-map sounds like it would be cash better saved and used later on.
On a separate note, the first issue I had with the trip computer lcd line not working, has now been resolved thanks to the Pontiac GTO owners manual link that swordfishcoupe listed on another topic today
