im shocked at the price of parts
Discussion
wilst driving my monaro vxr to picadors in southampton on monday i ran over an object in the road ,didnt spot it dark and all that anyway this has made a nasty hole in my bumper and my fog-light has dissapeared too ,so ive now had prices for these parts for the bumper its £1350 for the fog light its £600 plus all the costs of respraying and fitting im just amazed how vx can justify these prices what are they made of gold or something ,thankfully tesco insurance have already aproved my repair so i can get back on the road asap
You can get aftermarket bits for some stuff like brakes etc. Plus places like Holmart buy up bin ends and stuff from time to time, so you can get some good priced HSV and Holden stuff from them.
Might pay to check Oz prices first incase there is a huge disparity. Shipping and VAT can add a load. I recently got some axles for $70 that ended up costing about £200 landed due to $200 shipping, then VAT and Duty on the lot etc. So sometimes you are better off buying local anyway.

well i think as the insurance is paying for the repairs ill let them get on with it but its worthwhile shopping downunder if youve gotta foot the bill yourself the only thing is the vx bumpers are different from the oz ones so id still be shopping here for that. It is suprising how much damage can be done it such a small time , thanks for the sympathy everyone and hopefully my new brake upgrade will help me stop more quickly in the future ,maybe i should look at upgrading the lights as they are very poor on dipped beam
Be careful - many brake upgrades are mainly targeted to improving braking under continual hard conditions.
For example, the brake pads I ran in my old car were tuned for the track (they contained a high proportion of ceramic) and there they wouldn't ever fade and were amazing with sticky semi-slick tyres. On the road though when cold it could be "interesting" and don't get me started if they were cold AND wet.
