Service oil indicator - please help
Discussion
Hi guys was hoping you could clarify something for me. I'v had my 2005 CV8 for a couple of years now. I had it's first service done shortly after I bought it at just over 10,000 miles. Picked it up from the dealers and everything was OK then about 200 miles later the Service engine oil indicator came on every time you turned the ignition on. I thought no probs they've just forgot to reset the computer - took it back and they reset it for me. Fast forward to the second service which was done at a little over 20,000 and I picked it up from the same dealers and it was fine, then a couple of hundred miles later the indicator started coming on in the same way as before. I assumed they'd done the same thing again so didn't think much of it and couldn't get down there for a while. When the car went in for it's first MOT at about 22,500 miles I mentioned it to the guy on the desk and asked if they could reset it. However when I picked the car up they told me that they couldn't reset it because the computer decides when the car needs a service based on how you drive it. The only way I can turn it out now they say is if I pay for another sevice(even though based on their own guidelines in the service book it isn't due one for about 7,500 miles, and the light only came on about 200 miles after they last serviced it). Is what they're saying accurate or are they trying to sting me for a service I don't need? Sorry for the long winded description folks but I'd like to get it straight for the next time I talk to them. Cheers.
The service warning seems a little dodgy on the Monaro.
Save yourself a few quid though and reset it yourself!
Service Indicator Reset
1. Whilst holding up/down, turn ignition on and wait for the beeps
2. Display showes "Service Reset?"
3. Hold "SET" for until it beeps
4. Display shows "No Items"
5. Turn off ignition

I think there may be an oversight by VX here. The service cycle of the cars in Oz is first at 1500 and then 10,000, 20,000, 30,000km and so on. Here in UK the service cycle is every 10000 miles (16000km). In the changes made to the cars for sale in UK, VX (or Holden?) changed the software in the BCM and added the function to switch between KPH and MPH. I think they may have overlooked the Service interval setting, ie, it shows service due at 10K, 20k etc in relation to Km not miles. So if your car says 'service due' at say 12000miles it is still thinking 20,000km. If this is true then car will show 'Service Due' @ 6,000, 12,000, 18,000 miles, so switch mode to KPH and odometer will show KM's. No help, I know, but explains what is going on.
This old thread may help explain a few things

Just got hold of a service book for my VXR. (Had to get one from oz, thanks to Tessa at Walkinshaw
, as Vauxhall seem incapable of getting hold of one)
Interestingly the service interval as standard is every 10,000kms or 6 months.
Did vauxhall actually do anything to change the interval? If not this could explain the early reminders people are seeing?
