I put my 'ro into Motorbodies today as the rack was leaking and I'm still getting knocking from the steering. I turns out the rack is faulty and the internal seals are leaking. It was fitted 10 or 11 months ago under warranty (which ran out last June). How likely do you think it is that I'll get any goodwill from Vauxhall? Under a year for a steering rack seems ludicrous and almost certainly would be considered unfit for purpose under law. Also I'm not entirely convinced that the top mounts aren't shot aswell but the workshop manager didn't seem aware of this possibility :/

Monkfish/RapidGB - what would you charge for a replacement 04 CV8 rack (or a quicker rack if there is a compatible one) supply and fit? I'm hoping VX will do right by me but I don't want to get ripped off if they don't.

Most parts are covered by at least a 12 month warranty.

We can do a stock rack for £389 all inclusive. We will be doing a quicker rack, but not quite yet!

This is my understanding but he was saying that didn't count if the work was done under warranty. I reckon I have a good chance of some goodwill but it's still a pain.

Wow, that's very reasonable. Vaux want over £900!! They also quoted over £2500 to replace all the disks and pads (and I know you guys can do pairs of discs for around £500).

[tangent] Well going by the 20 staff they had milling around the empty showroom at the dealership I went to its not surprising they need to charge that much.
I wish I could say the service made it all worth it..

I guess not everyone is going to have the same enthusiasm as us for customer service and general car worship. Still Im sure there are some nice apples somewhere in the barrel. [/tangent]

A couple of people who have looked under my car have commented that the arms come off the rack at a fairly unusual angle, don't know if that contributes. Is you car lowered?

It's completely standard suspension-wise. Infact the only non-standard part are the brakes from an 05 VXR.

Roger warned me that heavy use/track work could lead to the rack getting too hot and bursting seals (or somthing like that). Given I regularly visit the ring and like Alpine driving holidays I got a cooler fitted. The pump gets a bit noisy when hot but other than that its been perfect after 60,000 hard miles.

No heavy track use here frown The hardest use it's seen is a couple of PH hoons which don't exactly go at race speed.

They are going to call Vauxhall tomorrow to see what they can do. Hopefully they'll pay for it all or at least the part and I pay labour. If they go 50/50 I'd actually be better off going to Monkfish and paying for it all myself which is crazy. It could be a good excuse to get the road response pack done at the same time though smile

In which case, it will an even better deal, as both jobs require an alignment session!
