Holden may kill off Coupe 60!!!.......Noooooo
Discussion
If I hear that word GREEN one more time I'm gonna puke! Mind you, to all those that own Monaros (which would include myself) lets keep em in good nick as it's unlikely the greenies will let us have anymore......which means even more rarity for the coupes we own and GM will no longer build!

What a strange article... the Coupe60 was only ever a styling concept, it just wasn't going to happen. (That is a fact, confirmed some time ago)
Sounds like Bob is trying to point the finger of blame at Greenies, can't say I disagree with that tactic

They said the 7 litre would never happen but it is. It looks like they were still in talks with GM about the coupe 60. I remember when they discontinued the Monaro that they mentioned the next one wouldn't happen untill 2010 or 2011 as it would be based on the new platform which is now here.

A big difference between putting an existing engine into an existing car, and building a 2 door version of it... I always assumed the 7litre would happen. My info that the coupe wasn't going to happen came from an impeccable inside source.
Another reason is that while the Monaro was sold in the US and the UK, it looks like the new Camaro is likely to be sold in Oz and England.

Fair comment but whats the difference between turning the previous Commodore into the Monaro and doing the same with the new one? It would mean using the same front to the A-Pillar, the same chassis and then pressing a few more panels etc. It's not rocket science and in reality a cheap way to make a new coupe.

Agree, but the Monaro had a bigger market available, IINM they sold more in the US than Oz? With the new Camaro already coming there really isn't a niche for another GM 2 door V8.tim the pool man said:

Makes sense, I look forward to seeing the 1974 Toyota Celica....I mean Camaro in NZ. I'm sure it will look alot less like the Celica in the flesh..

The uncamo'd ones I've seen in the flesh look really good.

Hmm Labour (or is it Labor over there?) have been in power about half an hour and it seems like the fun police are out already, sounds bloody familiar!
Much as I despise the socialists I think you will find that this has nothing to do with them, but is a simple commercial rationalisation of a product range. That is a damn shame that the coupe 60 wasn't a viable plan as it looks dynamite, it would be a tough choice between it and the new camaro for me. It's doubtful though that the wheels and tyres would have been so aggressively stuffed which is a big part of the cool factor. I don't see why in the 21st century a major manufacturer like GM can't have two RWD V8 coupes on the go. BMW and Mercedes have no trouble selling all sorts of coupes of varying sizes and then Alpina and AMG also do a very healthy trade in German uber cars so why GM can't do it I don't know.
Vauxhall should have it as their own car as most likely the Camaro won't be from Vauxhall but sold alongside Corvette's. like someone else said it would give the impression of a pumped up Astra and so would fit right in at the top of the model tree.

I agree... I love the look of it, and I imagine it would REALLY give those Germans something to sit up and take notice of.

I have just emailed my friend in OZ who works for Holden and have asked him about the Coupe 60.
So ill let you know what he says when he gets back to me
Did you get a reply? I read somewhere that GMH have invested a huge amount in dedicated pressing equipment for the VE body panels, another reason why a coupe version is unlikely. So ill let you know what he says when he gets back to me
