Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone else on here is based in New Zealand? (Was in England until a year ago). I'm off to the Aussie V8's racing around the streets of Hamilton in NZ this weekend!

Can't wait, it should be awesome, the last Aussie V8 street race in NZ was in Wellington a few years ago and I went to that which was awesome! For the past few years they've only been on the Pukekohe race track so to see them on the street again will be cool.

Going to leave the Monaro at home and take the train from Auckland though because it will be gridlock getting in and out, plus I can get totally faceless at the track

hmm, I have a different opinion of street circuits... I don't understand the fascination for them, they invariably produce the most boring races, as well as being so much more dangerous.
My real reason for disliking them is that they lead to the demise of permanet tracks, here in WA we have 1 only (Wanneroo). VESA are constantly threatening to take the WA round of the V8s to a Perth street circuit. The event provides the WASCC with the funds to maintain the track for the rest of the year. If we lose Wanneroo we would have to travel thousands of Km to race our own cars.

No such problem here with hundreds of WWII airflields about the place. Let alone all the F1 circuits etc.

Well I love street racing for motorcycle and car racing, main reason? You can't get much closer to the action and yes it is dangerous, which is refreshing in the wrapped in cotton wool world we seem to live in these days.

I am going to Hamilton to see the V8 supercars this weekend with a couple of friends....sadly we are going in a camperbus, not a V8. I will be there in my Wortec Tshirt hopefully getting lots of photos for the boys back at home in England!!!

Mmmm...I don't think you can relate the danger of motor racing and Ashley Cooper's death here. How many people have died running a marathon?...should we stop marathons as they are too dangerous? If we lived life by the morals you are suggesting it would be pretty dull.
