Hello, a little advice please... my VXR 500 has just announced that it is due it's 20,000 mile service. It's current mileage is about 12,000. I've had a service at 1000 miles, an additional oil change at 5000 miles, and a main service at 10,000. Is it really asking for another main service? Appologies if these are silly questions, and I can normally make sense of car servicing, but I'm not entirely sure what is due on the car now, or if it's just a case of the last dealer not resetting the indicator. The complication as I see it is that although being sold on a 56 plate, it was actually manufactured in '05 presumably, and the car is in effect something like 3 years old. Is there something on the service schedule that should have been changed by now? Fuel filter for example should be changed every 2 years it says (i think)?!

Or should I just follow the service indicator re-setting procedure and wait for some more mileage?

I worry too much!

Hi. My service indicator is the sameconfused. I had mine serviced last time at 9,600 and when it reached 12,000 ish it announced my 20,000 was due. Apparently it's done on time/age rather than mileagesilly so don't worry. However you expect the geniuses at Vauxhallnerd to reset it accordingly. driving

I take it as we service once a year if we don't exceed the 10K miles. I had to reset the service indicator on mine. Service at the 10K intervals if sooner than 12 months.

Some GM stuff uses service cycles to advise you. Basically lots of smaller runs will require an oil changes over less longer ones etc.
Not sure if thats what the Monaro is doing but I know other GM vehicles work on this basis.

Personally I ignore the electronic service indication as its ccensoredp! Service oil/filter every 3-5k, airfilter clean (K&N) every 10k and fuel filter every 2 years. Other stuff as you feel necesary really - plugs say 20k but I'd do at 10k intervals since mines S/C'ed driving
BMW's auto diagnosis for servicing didnt impress me so the Holden one does nothing for me apart from waste electricity!!
Remember you wont ever harm the car by over servicing it... only yr back account!

The service idicator still works in KM's. So it thinks its done circa 20,000k and is warning accordingly, just one of those harmless characteristics.

So it is wasting electricity, and increasing my carbon footprint even more then... god at this rate I will be shot soon for driving such a car!
