....on the rear of my 04 CV8 and while the letters on the lower boot fascia come off clean, when I try to take off the circular Vauxhall badge at the top (above the reg plate) I find it has two locator pins and thus 2 small holes in the metalwork....

I THOUGHT YOU GUYS SAID THEY WERE JUST STUCK ON!!!!!!!

I remember when I debadged my old astra coupe. Some clever sod had re-lacquered the boot at some point and sprayed over the badges. Of course, when I removed them, it left a very obvious outline where there was 'old lacquer' and 'new lacquer'.

One disasterous t-cutting session later and I had to get my boot resprayed. Needless to say, I left the griffin badge where it was

If you want to change the front grille badge properly, you have to remove the complete front bumper assy in order to gain access to fit the retaining clips on from behind on the new badge.

Just pull the old badge off and fit the new one on with double sided tape underneath. Thats what I did 4 years ago on mine and it's still on ok

edit - doh! you're doing the rear badge and not the front.... same principle applies as far as i remember

2 skillfully handled screwdrivers, some plasticine to hold the circlips, skinned knuckles and voila ............ well I got 2 of the 3 on and it hasn't fallen off yet

cv8 rear badge does have 2 locator holes, least my 04 model did but I had a nice holden badge ready to replace it with, but iirc the pins don't match so I had to cut them off and simply stick the badge on with the tape, making sure it covered the 2 holes while I was at it. Duh -that explains why the red cv8 at RapidGB the other day had its badge lying on its side - must have used the pins. Did wonder about it at the time.
