Can anyone tell me the replacement part number for the wortec or similar cone airfilter? I assume it K&N or other third party. Higher filter area than stock filter.

I'm interested to calculate the area of the filter?

stock is 290mm x 190mm = 55,100 sqmm (smaller than my 2.0L Astra Coupe Turbo??)

Biggest K&N cone I've seen

165mm diameter at base (260mm circumference)

178mm length

111mm diameter at top

circumference of circle is pi x r

260mm x 178mm = 46280 sqmm, but less than that because its a cone filter

which is less than the stock filter

isn't the surface area of a cylinder using the dimensions of the K&N about 92,270 sqmm - as you say its not quite cylindrical but surely even with the reduction in diameter it'll be a greater surface area than the panel filter?

Can you show your calculation? The top is sealed and the bottom is connected to the inlet, so can not be used in the calculation.

surface area of a cylinder =2 x pi x r x h = 2 x 3.14 x (165/2)x178 = 92200+ depending on how many digits you round pi to.

The filter in mine is pleated so you can't just calculate area from width x length, you need to know the filter media area.

Ahhh thanks, I had the formula for the circumference of a circle incorrect!
