Weak volume buttons

Hopefully it might be covered under warranty, if not it might be cheaper to order the part and do it yourself. Shouldn't take more than an hour of your time and will be cheaper than the dealer doing it. Easy enough to do.
Disconnect the battery and leave the circuit to discharge for about 30mins to be on the safeside.
You'll need to release the airbag by using a screwdriver to release 4 clips at the back of the steering wheel then gently pull the airbag assembly forward enough to detach the connection wire.
Once removed, I can't remember if you might have to remove the steering wheel from the column to access the loom connector for the switches. Each switch assembly is secured by two screws. As the workshop manuals are so fond of saying - assembly is the reverse of removal!
And no, I hadn't broken the switch, I had to remove my steering wheel as I changed it for the VXR one.
Hope that little nugget of info is of some use!
Cheers
Paul

Cheers paul for the imformation. Think i'll try Vauxhall first though as i'm not to good with that sort of thing. We took it into Slaters at Colwyn Bay because the brakes had warped and they fitted new brakes under warranty. Its got to go in next month for a new front fog light as the seals gone and its steamed up. They give us really good service there. More than i can say for some other dealers. But again thanx for your time and knowledge

Excuse the hijack, but can you post a pic of your centre console please AM04ARO, I would like to see what a single din conversion looks like. Do your steering controls still work?
Was supposed to have been done Saturday but they had not received the adapter. Should be done next Saturday (unless they find the adaptor harder to come by than they think.
Stock speakers seem to handle mine really well, helped i guess by the comprehensive user/pre-set settings in the stereo (something lacking in the stock unit hence it's ability to blow the speakers)
Have considered changing them, but most passengers think the sound is really good. I'll wait 'til one of them blows before changing.

O/T Paul what are the extra buttons on your centre console next to the handbrake? ie behind the window cotrols; mine just has the T/C switch there, yours has another next to it then a "knob"? behind them?
the other button is rear fog lights (you dont have them I believe) and the nob looks like something aftermarketStig - Needed an adapter to use the steering controls, not expensive and there are two types depending on what the stereo can use. Hard wired directly to the main wiring loom or, like mine, infra red using my HU's remote control. Thr transmitter is mounted in the roof lining by the interior roof light. No difference in performance.
Tim, my button layout is T/C, Rear Fog Light and Exhaust Volume switch. The 'knob' you can see is the secondary alarm over-ride plug. It's used if the aftermarket secondary alarm fob fails. A coded key is connected and it turns the immobilser off allowing the car to be started. It also has a flashing LED as an added 'deterrant'...
