Has anyone experience of both these kits?

The upto now the overall concensus seemed to be the Rip was the kit to have, but now there's the new BM shifter for less moolah with decent reviews i'm not sure on the best option.

Had a BM on a BMW and Rip Shift is alot more solid, read that as no slop in the lever at all inc any flex! Good but it is very very solid changing gear.

Strangely enough I did see that having posted.

I wanted to know if anyone 'here' had any first hand experience to add. Second opinion and all that.

Apologies if I appear to be covering old ground.

Have a sift through ls1gto.com There's whole threads on this.

Not sure it'll answer the question though, both seem to have their share of reviews both good and bad..

also depends where you buy the ripshifter - its a lot cheaper direct from Oz.

Hmmm Ripshifter is holding sway.

They are much cheaper from Oz (about £200) as long as you can offset the shipping/import buy picking up several bits at once. (can't quite afford the other bits I want from over there just yet smile )

Thanks

I had a B&M in my camaro, then a rip shifter in my VT2 HSV, now I have another ripshifter for the VE VXR8.
I would buy the B&M for the monaro as I understand the shifter throws are shorter, though the ripshifter was excellent, no complants from me.
Fitted it myself in a couple of hours of swearing and rolling around under the car.

I bought the rip shifter over the billet for the VE as I understand the shift throws are shorter. I dont care about the weight of throw.

Actually WPUK had some billet shifters for the Monaro on display at a discounted price, might pay to check with them on cost, could be a bargain to be had there.
Billet is another manufacturer of shifters based in Oz. http://www.billetproducts.com.au/new/vtvz.html

You cant really compare a Camaro with the Monaro though.

Camaro uses a straight stick in the box, whereas the Monaro shifts it back a little further, complicating things.

The cranked Ripshifter....well, it avoids any nasty linkages, but in doing so, creates some odd stick movements.

The Billet style you mention above, should retain proper stick movement ( ie, fore/aft and sideways only, as opposed to some up and down with the Rip )

Given a choice, Id opt for the Billet style every time. But that depends on quality and reliability.
The cranked Ripshipter, is simple. The Billet style follows the same design as a standard shifter.
