Yes, two antennas. One is some sort of diversity antenna. Do a search on www.ls1.com.au

I have fitted a DAB radio and have a hard drive based mp3 system. No RDS issues (on the rare occasions I do use the radio) lotsa music choices and no friggin' CD's cluttering up the car. And then there is always the 'open window stereo' - especially in tunnels

problem is that on the vxr8 theres quite a few of the cars systems (heating, aircon, demisters) controlled from the same unit.
I imagine changing it would be a nightmare

Shame actually as there's quite a few ipod cradles now that use RDS to show what track is playing in the radio display.

Why would a sat nav need speed sensor input? The sat Nav unit already knows what speed you are going else it would get lost!

it's to help it in areas where gps signal isn't so good. i believe it also has a gyroscope in it to calculate when turns etc have been made.

it uses both systems for added accuracy. gps taking priority though.

i did wonder this originally when i read about it needing a speed sensor signal (nitrosman now has my kenwood + garmin kit!) pretty sure though it's not essential ?

well the garmin unit seems to work without the speed sensor input connected its just that it would be better with that input aswell they call it dead reconing or something similar ,mind you i having used it now you cant beat the tomtom units theyre still better navigation unit just dont like all that clutter cables and screen mounts gatting in the way

The new Garmin/Kenwood systems have done away with the need for the speed sensor wire. Having said that, mine is using the speed sensor wire as I found it still wasn't up to scratch in tunnels and built up areas despite the gyroscope.

Depends on the unit you've got and the wiring harness supplied.

Mine is the KNA-G520. The wire colour is Pink to the car speed signal harness. Will work without it but as mentioned before, aids with dead reckoning and makes makes the Garmins 'Trip Computer' function even more accurate.

there are 7 wires in the supplied wiring loom:

Yellow (battery), Red (ignition), Pink (speed), Light Green (parking brake detection switch), Purple/White Stripe (reverse) and the thickest wire leads to the HU display.

sorry i knew that it was the pink wire on the garmin loom ,what i mean was where on the car did you connect it to was it behind the speedo and connect into the loom in there just wondering what colour it might have been just to save me some time hunting mind you CV8s are a bit different to VXRs

Sorry - misread. I think the wire to the Speed Sensor was Blue/White. Can't remember how I worked it tbh (2 years since I did it). *might* have patched into it. I did make notes, I'll have to see if I can dig them out.

HSV and CV8's have the same wiring according to my workshop manual.

I think ISO radio fittings on wiring harnesses now have speed signal (to work the speed dependent volume control)
It needs to come from the dash first as the signal is hidden away in the canbus comms traffic.

No idea if the Vxrs are like this though - sorry

Here's a good link - it matches what I remember as haven't had a chance to dig out stuff.
