Here's a question for you all......

On the previous 'Ro', '05 5.7L....
Trundling up to 160 mph (acceleration was so slow after that I ran out of road) gear changes were a fairly smooth affair...no vibration, all very smooth and calm. Okay the underpants were a bit shakey (not least I had 63kg of 1.4c explosives in the boot) but I guess that's natural I suppose.

In the current '05 VXR 'Ro' I have now, when I change for 5th to 6th....( Iconfess to not looking at the speedo for speed but I was just short of the 6k on rpm). What struck me was when I took hold of the gear lever there was a HEFTY amount of vibration coming through the gearstick....This isn;t married up with any obvious vibration from the wheels or through the steering wheel either.

Anyone else noticed this?
Not travelling at these speeds very often...in fact very rarely given available road and absence of road users etc. etc. I was wondering if there were any hardened speed junkies that may be able to enlighten me on the normality or othersie of this.

Your gearbox is shagged... plenty of others have had the same problem and had them changed.

I`m sure some will be along sortly.

Flap panic!

How shagged is shagged?
Other than this occasion I notice no problems at all.

Never mind about your gearbox, what possesed you to drive at that speed with bang in your boot?

(here comes the nerd in me now......was it 63kg NEQ? I move explosives for a living hehe )

NEQ was around 35kg....

In all fairness....they were APCP rocket motors, although thay are classified as 1.4C explosive, in the true sense of the word, explosives they are not.
It just suits the powers that be to classify them like that.

I was on my way from Schipol to Budapest. We were launching a ruddy great rocket into the Danube on live Hungarian television for an Hungarian escapologst! It's a long story. Nearly as long as the story of the paperwork.

We've moved onto Nitrous oxide / HTPB rocket motors now for our telly work. Not least it makes better TV, it's a feck load cheaper, and the component parts aren't bound by burdensome paperwork if we need to do a gag abroad at short notice. Furthermore we can cluster them all together to get over 9 tonnes of thrust if we need to. Useful for heavy stuff.

If rockets are your thing I could muster up some links for your entertainment.

I did try and get the 'Ro' on our last gag... Unfortunately the terrain didn't permit it!

I thought all VXR's 05 and onwards had a certain amount of gearbox vibration? I assumed due to the size of the engine and gearbox, summed up with all that power. You have to allow for small about of movement...

It's quite pronouned when shifting from 5th to 6th at high revs...

Not that I get up there that often....To be honest the drive is fine other than that so I'll stick with things as they are and monitor.

VXR DAZ had the same prob at speed and the box was replaced.
Your 1.4C is a dangerous goods classification by Nato for transportation handling and response requirements.

Indeed I did have it replaced. Mine wasn't just vibration though was combined with a noise which was like a ratchet sort of sound. No noticeable noise until approx 150-160mph and then very noisy.

Gearbox was replaced and the fault is apparently with the selector fork breaking. If it isn't under warranty then don't go to Vauxhall to have it replaced as they want something stupid like £7,000 to replace it!

sometimes a replacement shifter will rattle. Especially rip shifters etc.
So if you have one of them it could well just be that.
