Bought a CV8 advertised as a 2006 car to discover the car was actually built 2006. Paid £16,000 for a car with 1 owner and 14,000 miles. Lovely car in and out and good to drive but.........
Your views ladies and gentlemen?
Think you need to read yr post.... advertised as built in 2006 and actually built in 2006... whats the problem?Your views ladies and gentlemen?
No, loads of these cars where imported by Vauxhall but not registered until a lot later.
Mine for example is a 56 plate (mid 2006) but was built early 2005.
Unless there is a difference in spec between the 04 and 06 CV8 models (don't think there is.....?) I wouldn't see it as an issue.

Something that you'll notice on here is that many of the Monaros were built some time befoe they were registered. I have a 6.0 VXR and they were all made in 2005, for example. They can be 54 plate to 07 registration and it just changes the warranty period.
Holden/HSV kindly put the manufacture date (both one mine) under the bonnet. You could have a chat with the dealer and work out a free servicing plan if you are lucky.

They're all built ages before they're first registered. I assume that the date of first registration is 2006? Why do you think you have been done? You still have the remains of the warranty I assume, so if the price was right.....
Having said that, many dealers have advertised the 330hp '04 model as having the 05 models 350odd hp. If you bought yours as this, then I understand that one of our members got compensation (power upgrade)

I think that this is right....
Vauxhall brought in 300 or so CV8's and 50 VXR's for the 04 model, and whilst the VXR's sold out, the others didn't sell as well. The unsold ones kicked around for a while. Yours, I think would have been one of those. No real problem there but thats how it panned out. I think that as a second hand buy, the 'ro represents tremendous 'bangs for your bucks'.

What hasn't been mentioned so far is that 2005-model CV8 has various differences from the 2004 cars -nostril bonnet, different front & rear bumpers, twin exhaust, subtley-altered wheels, extra dials and of course a few more bhp. They also have the re-positioned fuel tank and small boot - advantage the early car there.
I suspect that anyone that does not know the history of these cars would ordinarily expect a 2006 registered car to be a later specification than 2004. If there was no difference betwen 2004 and 2005 spec there wouild be less of an issue. I suppose it depends on how the car was represented as to whether there is any comeback.
Would a 2004-spec not be worth less than a 2005-spec, even if they were both registered in 2006?
I'm sure many of us have seen a number of cars advertised as something they are not, and not necessarily because the sellers were being dishonest, but because they don't know the specification differences and build date issues either. That goes for Vauxhall main dealers too. Just shows the value of research and browsing this forum.

Just out of interest i had a look at ours. We bought it as an 56 plate and it also was built in december 2004. Does this mean we dont have as many horses as we thought. Also if it was built in 04 how come it comes with nostrils when they did'nt arrive until later?
It may well be a 2005-spec car with the extra horses - does it have the other bits mentioned in my previous post?Model-year spec changes do not occur on 1st January, but invariably around 4th Quarter, at least with European models.

Yeah its got all those things. It may just be a blonde thing but if there are two cars built in 2004 how come one has all the extra bits the other doesn't?
Because the one with the extra bits was built later, after the revised specification was introduced. No different to if you bought, for example, a Vectra or Astra. Revised specifications for the next "model-year" always used to be introduced after the factory holiday shutdown, when I was selling cars years ago. Therefore one built in, say, November, will have the better trim or more equipment than one built in March.
So the revised spec on the Monaro was introduced for the 2005 year but they started building the things late 2004. No doubt someone more in the know will come along and quote all the relevant V- prefix model codes for the different specifications.
Hope this helps.

Production of 2005 cars starts in september of the previous year. So your car can be a "2005" spec car but built in 2004 albeit at the end of 04.
If your exhausts come out both sides, its an 05 spec car. There are No exceptions. Except the one i converted!

The confusion comes about by you lot insisting on calling them "04" or "05" models. There is no such thing! (I accept that this may have been started by Vauxhall?)The V2seriesIII was made up till Sept 04 when they started making the VZ (twin exhaust, more power, bonnet nostrils, cometic differences).
AFAIK no Monaros were built post 05. The build date of your car will be on the compliance plate.

Yep, mines an 05 04, but no doubt you can get 06 04's as well!! Now it seems you can get 04 05's too, along with 05 05's and 06 05's.. Where's the confusion there, dead simple ;-)
I go with the Monkfish suggestion, exhausts on the nearside 04, exhausts both sides 05, regardless of reg no...

Single exhaust is V2, twin (1 each side) is VZ. Very simple.
