Well, it didn't rain (much...)
I really enjoyed it and thought that it was superbly organised by Vauxhall. Top marks there!

Steven,
I told Martyn that you came looking for him. He's not happy and still hasn't forgiven me for not taking him! L.o.l.
Book for the morning session and you get breakfast as well as lunch

Instructors thought for the day:
The first rule of trackday racing is to use someone else's car!

Was a good day. Rain made the in-field fun.

was a great morning of driving fun. Was out in the VXR8 during the rain. Was very slippery in some places.
I did enjoy the Astra and Corsa. Could really chuck them about. Hated the Vectra!.

The nurburgring Astra VXR is a good car too. Totally thrashed by the race drivers!. I think one of them had a massive failure!. Bits falling off!. whoops!

Vauxhall put on an really good day. Breakfast and lunch as well....

Loved the Rockingham track so will be back there next year.

SLALOM 24.85 (but unfortunately a 5 sec pen for stopping too late) = 29.85

AUTOTEST 24 secs (fastest thursday pm time)

26 point something seconds for the slalom, no idea at all on the second. Only important thing was that I beat my son on both, otherwise I would never have heard the end of it!

I was 1st on the slalom so I took it easy (well that's my excuse) then I watched everybody ragging it around doing handbrake turns and getting better times. (1.28 dead, not very good)

The second test was a little better, despite stalling the car, I managed a low 1.29 which I think was the second best time late Wednesday afternoon.

I preferred the track sessions where I enjoyed overtaking 2 VXR8's in a Corsa. I went around with a young Portugese Instructor who let me do a extra lap.....as he noticed I was enjoying myself.

I actually enjoyed thrashing the Vectra, it sounded quite nice and was surprisingly good.....and hated the Mireva.

I found the difference in instructors was amazing, some just sat there and didn't say much, others were more enthusiastic and prompted you to get the best out of the cars, and one chap was quite edgy which didn't inspire me with any confidence. He grabbed hold of my steering wheel on one bend.....I thought he was making a pass at me

I also found the instruction varied. Some didnt say much. One guy just had general chit chat with me....where did I live, what car I drove etc.... Bit off putting!. Others were good. Lots of talking and praise which boosts the confidence.

I also found varied advice about the first hairpin. Some said go deep into the corner, others said turn in at the turn in cones, one guy said turn in about middle of the track otherwise in a racing situation you'd get overtaken on the inside. True but not relevant for these sorts of days.....

oh well, it was a good half day and worth the money!
