how did (the Ro) get so much traction off the line?
Impressive launch but the challenger did catch up later.
For those that know - would a 13 sec 1/4 mile be a standard set up or FI?
not seen the vid but it could be either or. High 13s could be NA (unless its done propper as richard is doing), low 13s would be fiImpressive launch but the challenger did catch up later.

Guys in Oz are running 10 sec cam only in 6L L98 engines (Same as LS3 really just 6L)
So dont assume its FI under 13!
Yes they probably have the right tyres and suspension to run 10's but the first 6' is well important. Good launch and tyres should get you a 1.6 instead of our normal 2.3's they say thats worth double over the 1/4. (ie) ~1.5 seconds!
I dont think the local entry level FI setups are worth it. You need to spend some proper money on heads, cam and FI. Otherwise you are trying to fit an elephant (the air) into a matchbox (your choked engine). But thats my opinion
Certainly Ive not seen anything from 1/4 mile results to change that opinion yet..

You`re starting to sound a little like Granada Richard.
We get it .... Ringram = FI Bad.

From the factory GTO are listed to do 0-60mph in 4.6 for the autos, and a 13.0 in the 1/4 mile. That particular GTO normally funs 12.78 consistantly. He is NA also.

The auto has a shorter 1st gear than the manual plus the benefit of the torque converter. Also less demanding on driver skill. On the grippy drag strip it is obviously going to thump of the line. Eventually a manual would catch up and pass but may need the full 1/4 mile to do so - by then the race is over.
We never got the choice here in the UK and I for one would have probably picked the auto instead of the high geared manual. I have wondered about buying another CV8 and converting it. The 4L65 appears cheaper than the T56. Maybe tricky interfacing it to the engine however unless it simply plus in. Here is the Australian VZ specs manual and auto:

I dont think theres anything fundamentally wrong with FI - it's a cheap way of getting large power and for going over 100-120bhp liter reliably then its the more pref option.
One of the funny things is that people quote boost which is meaningless as it's not as simple as more boost = more power. I bet richards NA set up with a very low geared supercharger would generate lots more power than others with much higher boost.
however I'm with richard in that you cant beat a decently tuned NA.

The ECU can be programmed with an auto tune which will control the trans, your main problem will likely be the wiring loom. Unless they used the same and just tapped off the trans connector..? You can probably find some info on ls1.com.au about such a swap. Driveshaft might need changing too.We never got the choice here in the UK and I for one would have probably picked the auto instead of the high geared manual. So how come they didn`t just stick a hot head and cam setup in the Spitfire then

Thin air at altitude
Sorry to sound like a stuck record.. Ill hopefully demonstrate what Im talking about again soon.
Second stage was for the thin air.
First stage was just for the fun
