Buying a whole Stroker lump from USA
Discussion
Has anyone done this what where the costs involved just looking at another route than supercharging and i like the idea of a new lump as mine has now done 120k not miles does it work out much more money to get the 500hp i am after is there anyone over here that supplies stroker lumps
How easy would it be to put a 427 into a pretty standard ute?

Bolts right in
You just need the 24 tooth reluctor depending on your ECU & probably an uprated clutch. LS7 should be fine for 500bhp.
TBH you should get 500fwhp from the LS1 with intake/heads/cam Guys in the US on their dyno's which read a little higher can eek 500rwhp from the LS1.. just. LS7 in stock form will do it too obviously.
Im in the process of getting stroker from the US. I understand Harry's might even be from Thunderracing too. Though Im getting mine elsewhere. I think Roger was offering one, but with the L92/L76 top end. Shipping to an airport around $700US plus VAT, Duty etc.
It depends what parts you want. Full complete engines run around £13k but you can reuse things like sump, covers, coils etc
If you only want 500fwhp, then a small stroker will do that. (ie) A 382 or 402 etc. Take a peek here http://www.sdparts.com/categories/lsgeniiigenivper...
Lots to choose from
Then of course there are all the top end choices, Cathedral heads, L92 heads or LS7 heads. The LS7 heads will run the best with the smallest cam. Basically designed for power and emissions. Cathedrals will need a larger cam to get good power, though emissions will suffer due to increased overlap. Plus the intake choices, generally you will want either the L76 intake for L92 heads, or the LS7 intake or with cathedral heads the Fast92 intake, all for street use.
If you arnt in a rush you might want to see how mine turns out. The guy Im getting it from is keen to do others.
There are a few strokers on the cards. I think Roger has done one now and I know Mark has done a few too.

Not a silly idea depending on your power requirements, as once you hit around 454 cubes you have maxed out the LSx standard engine dimensions. The only way to get more is FI, NOS etc. Id say somewhere around 650bhp was max retaining emissions on large NA.
My power requirements were less, hence no need for FI. I wont bore anyone of why again

Yeah trans bolt pattern is the same. All parts will come across. There are a few minor gotcha's but they all have pretty basic solutions, like cam sensor extention and knock sensor extentions if you want to put an LS2 block into an LS1 (ie Gen4 engine into Gen3's place)
If you already have an LS2 then you are already set and its basically a straight swap. If you want to keep it basic with an LS1 get the 382 LS6 stroker or a resleeved LS1 block for something bigger. Though with an LS1 Id still do a gen4 engine swap. Accessory mounts are the same still its just a couple of sensors get relocated. Just be careful you get the right crank pickup in there they changed from 24 to 58 half way through the LS2

Try Peter Knight Race Engines at Daventry, N'thants. He developed my BBC's for me and has done SBC's for stuff, like Ultima's. And he gives great advice, free. BTW he also has and engine dyno etc. Tell him Gaz sent you.How easy would it be to put a 427 into a pretty standard ute?

will all my bits and bobs fit ie power steering starter? will they bolt to a 4l60??
What about the trans'? I would have thought 500HP is on the limit?MyM8V8 said:

Someone suggested that he doesnt actually build the lsx engines but imports them from the US. Im sure he (Mr Knight) can comment on what is or isnt done locally, but thats my understanding. Makes sense as parts and labout are cheaper there.

For the avoidance of wild speculation, harrys engine was brought over from the US as a time saving measure, but was stripped, fettled and modified and dynoed for its intended task.
I for one wouldn't be comfortable to supply an engine built by someone 4000 miles away for a customers car without truly knowing about its internals. Either i build it myself or buy from an engine builder with a solid reputation over here, as in this case, confident in the knowledge that the product is fully supported.
