Hi, has anyone on here changed the plugs on their cars and if so at what mileage and what did you use?

ngk bpres from memory, basically 14mm, 0.708" reach taper seats with 11mm gap or 13mm is ok smile
5's for stock engines and 6's for high compression or SC under £20 a set of 8 from halfords if you get the coppers.

If you want Iridiums then ask yourself why.. (the stock iridiums or platinum should last for ages/years) plus what is a better conductor, platinum or copper? hmm..

And what temperature does copper melt at ?? And which can be made to a finer point, which assists with producing a spark ??

And which lasts longer ??

Precious metal plugs do have benefits, although purchase price isnt one.

Also...which is the better conductor ?

FWIW, Ive been using Iridiums now since the start of the year....so far so good. ( just the cheapy single Iridiums )
Before that I used double platinums, which were more expensive.

As said in post #2, 5's for normal use, or 6's for lightly boosted applications, or perhaps some moderately boosted.

Yeah ok, coppers wont last as long and iridium is much better than platinum..

To all intents and purposes the BPR5 or BPR6's with EF-13 suffix are the same as the TR5 or TR6's

Proper model number is BPR5EF-13 or swap 5 for a 6 smile

If you want to buy once and forget maybe the iridiums, otherwise coppers. There are quite a few reports of platinum tips etc falling off.
At least the copper just erodes.

Falling off when ??

I used them for 2 years, and the only times bits fell off...where kinda my own fault. The plug damage was the least of my worries biggrin

We used them in Subarus all the time ( PFR7B same as I used ), with zero problems, ever.

Perhaps on other brands....I doubt NGK have problems, unless its from people damaging them trying to alter the gap.

Falling off as reported by guys on ls1 forums etc. Not experienced any myself. Mr Google will show you more details.
Maybe its from nutters with major detonation etc. But the summary is coppers were felt more reliable anyway, even if the dont last as long.

"be carefull with the platinum plugs tho. i have pulled many out of differant cars and found numerous that had the platinum "tip" missing from the plug.
that means the engine injested it, it prolly wont hurt much as it gets spit out the exhaust but still, it aint spose to work like that...

"When I changed the plugs on my 98 Formula at around 7000 miles, I thought the original plugs felt ok, but after the swap there was a huge difference. I also thought the original plugs felt ok in my 60,000 mile 95 Formula too, but you should see how bad of a condition they were in when we pulled them out last weekend. The OEM plugs are total garbage, the platinum pucks always fall off the tops of the plugs. NONE of them were still there on my 95! The gaps had opened up to .080 in some cases! 100k my arse, there is no way they'd last that long! Even 50k is wishful thinking on GM's part for the OEM plugs."

... etc smile

wink

I probably will tbh as the cost to change 2 sets is still less than 1 set of iridium/plats. Even at 20k miles for me thats almost 4 years and would be changed after 2 regardless.... what is the part number for the coppers for these engines though
