Indeed, what a day for motorsport with Lewis stamping his authority in F1 & the Doctor showing the world why some call him the greatest of all time, that was one of the best days in front of the telly in years!

Best race I've seen for years, some of the moves were unbelievable.

Ditto the above, Moto GP was awsome!, nice to see the Doctor doing his stuff again. Hopefully both Lewis and Rossi will win this year.

Personally I think I'd rather see Casey do it now. Nothing against Rossi, but Stoner gets an unfair rap as far as I'm concerned, whenever he wins, its because he bike has twice the power, or his magic Bridgestone tyres. Total bull, he's the only guy that can do anything on a Duke, and yesterdays race showed he's on equal terms with Rossi in riding ability.

They had a crap start to the year and just got on with the job without any whinging, I reckon he deserves to win again..

Then again if Jorge can stop crashing, and Dovi gets Haydens works bike, then that'll mix it up some.. yeehah...

I'd hate to see Casey win it. Just listen to him after that race - what was he moaning about? Unbelievable.

I agree that he is a good rider, but on a par with Rossi - I really don't think so. Yesterday he was spooked and he made a mistake because of it. Somewhat Gibernau-esque if you ask me. He won last year as his bike and tyre combination was far better than anyone elses. He's clearly a good rider and so far the only one to be able to ride this years Duke, but with his reaction yesterday to losing he's got a way to go yet!

Come on Vale!

Started reading this thread and thought "NOooo, I haven't seen the race yet!" Have seen it now though, and what a great race, and what a great circuit!
Having followed motorcycle racing since I was a lad, (and that was quite some time ago.....)am convinced that Rossi is the all-time best. I also have been watching Stoner for some years, and always knew he would be good when he stopped falling off. As for Hayden, not convinced about him at all. Whilst he was a world champion, it was only because he had no competition. Still, I suppose he has been a champion, which is more than I ever was. He probably doesn't rate my riding either! L.o.l.
This is turning out to be a cracking season for motor sport, I've even watched F1 again!

I reckon the rest of the season will be great. The Duke has a superior electronics package and when it wasn't working where was Stoner? Yamaha have some new bits to sort Rossi's bike out for the second half of the season which should even the bikes up a bit (hopefully get the Yammy on par with the Duke in the power stakes as well).

The most interesting part for me is that Rossi has shown that Stoner is not quite the cool unshakable Mick Doohan he tries to emulate. Don't get me wrong as Stoner is my second favourite rider. My point is that when someone appears to be unbeatable the other riders believe it but when they get beaten or flustered the rest will pounce like hungry Wolves!

I can't wait till the summer break is over and watch Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa (who seems to have found new aggression) fight to the end of the Championship!

Have a look at Hayden's 2006 stats here http://resources.motogp.com/files/results/xx/2006/...

You guys need to read the body language a bit better! An animated Rossi clearly knew he'd forced stoner off the track, but laughed it off as a good fight, he even apologised to Stoner on the podium. But then this is my whole point, he gets away with everything just because he's Rossi and everyone loves him, whereas Stoner gets accused of having a bad attitude just because he criticised Rossi's riding. Was it my imagination, or did Rossi not also make a mistake that nearly wiped them both out while under pressure from a charging Stoner?? Don't see anyone claiming he was 'spooked'!!!

Like I say, I'm not anti Rossi, just wish people could see beyond the hype every once in a while, and give the other guys as much credit for their awesome skills..

Not wishing to 'bite' too easily, but as someone who has followed bike GP's forever, and raced myself when I was 'much' younger, I would like to suggest that I'm not following hype but am taking a considered opinion based on experience - I'm not some youngster making a snap judgement because Toby Moody gets excited....

Everyone in MotoGP is a quality rider, some just more quality than others!

Can't argue with any of that

(Still not impressed with Hayden though, but accept that he's better than me. L.o.l)

The reason why Stoner is the only one performing on the Ducati is that he's a very physical rider and the bike suits his style. I think Hayden would be one of the most suited riders to take Marco's seat given his physical riding style whereas Melandri rides with a smoother style so not suited to it.

What actually happened on the podium:

'On the podium Stoner told Rossi that he'd lost respect for him because he's been racing for many years and he doesn't remember ever having a race like that'.

Rossi stated afterwards:

'Well if he's been racing for many years, I've been racing for a lifetime and I don't know who he's been racing against but I remember all my races being like that and my rivals always fought that way.'

'He's used to the mentality of racing at the front with a four second advantage over the field but racing shoulder-to-shoulder brings other factors into play,' said Rossi.
