on a monaro vxr with a full wortec system i want to reduce engine bay temps and im considering wrapping the haders and was just wondering what peoples opinions were , good or bad idea etc as iv heard this can shorten the life of an exhaust as it pushes the heat further back into the exhaust is there any compramise maybe wrapping the headers half way down

If you want to drop underhood temps drop your engine temps down to 82*C/180*F its near the optimal temp for power. Stock is near 98*C.
You can get it to 90*C by fans alone, under that a T'Stat helps

so much for stainless steel these days even when your paying that much for an exhaust i have been looking at a 160 degree stat from the states

Either way you still need to retune the fan on/off or fan % power settings a T'stat alone wont do it.

We used to wrap headers for power. Heat=energy, energy=power, ergo loose heat loose power. The problem was that the fabric wrap held moisture and that made a mess of the headers. Looks st too IMHO!

how peter much did it cost to do both headers
how long did it take to get them done
did you have yours coated inside aswell

Not many will touch them if they`ve been on a car though.

I see that Camcoat do but don`t warrant the job.
