Today while taking a large roundabout and exiting through a left right complex I had a power dump right at the wrong moment (wet road) after I had finished doing my knitting I pulled into a layby on reduced power, the screen on the dash said it had gone into safe mode. I switched the engine off and restarted and all was well, so was that oil surge?? I was unable to look at the dials as I had my hands full. Any ideas, i have checked the oil level and all is fine.

DTC codes will tell all, otherwise "pure speculation" as they say smile

You can get your ECU scanned if there are any historical codes in there they might help.
BTW if anyone wants their car scanned, at the Bathurst meet let me know, I usually have my scan tool with me all the time.

Thanks for the reply Richard, Mmmmmm not sure yet if I can make the bash at the Ace. I haven't looked yet at the ecu plug, is it a standard 16 pin OBD - OBD11 -CAN ?? if so I have a scanner coming, but something tells me I am going to need a special scan tool??

Yeah the connector is the same and they both run obdii diagnostic tests/codes etc, its just that the different ecu's/vehicles run different communications protocols. VPW vs CAN/GMLAN etc just like a mini internet/network for car components really.

I havent had chance yet to plug in the code reader, but just checking out the fluids has shown up a loss of 1 litre of coolant!

Can someone on here tell me what is the colour of the coolant supplied from the factory? I just hope it is red.

its red coolant - local Vauxhall dealers sell it for around 2 quid a litre, can buy as litres or gallon bottles iirc

new red with red factory, new red with blue factory I believe is okay but iirc you cant put new blue coolant into a car that comes with red from factory. safer to keep the same though.

Try keeping your revs below 6,200.....that'll stop the sudden 'power dump'!

Well i got around to checking the ecu out this morning and there are no faults stored, and none pending..................so back to "pure speculation" I guess. Except someone on here did suggest using the onboard scanner and that showed a water temp of 224, while the gauge showed half way, and the fans were kicking in and out.

So what do you think lads "sensor"???? or a one off gremlin?

Run out of fuel Nah, that can't be right, there is an irishman runing around out there that says he is not even going to "top up" his tanks as it is cheaper that way.....eek

yeah when you drop MB off lets get pie and a pint.

See you soon.
