Just changed the front belt on mine (BTW - its very easy to do) and I'm less than impressed with the top tensioner... definately convinced me now that its simply not man enough. Is there any simple mod to increase the tensioner resistance or is it a case of having something custom made as nothing seems to be easily and definately available for the Harrop setup.

PS: Camberley Auto Factors stock the front belts for £17. thumbup

Yeah, I'm not convinced either. I've only got the standard 6psi pulley but I sometimes feel strange 'goings on' at various high revs. I've felt a sudden surge of power at 5000rpm which I'm sure is the belt 'catching up' on the odd occasion.
Any chance of divulging the part number from Camberley Auto Factors, or do they stock the 'Micro V' variant that Harrop supply; 6PK2250?

6 rib
PK section ( rib width )
2250mm long

A very easy, and standard system for belts, although other brands may have their own part numbers too....that is the most basic format though.

Gates are the best.

Yep, nice conversion there and it obviously works. Only issue is the cost! although I do appreciate why its so much, just not enough benefits for the money according to my not so deep pockets.. frown

Going to try a custom made tensioner, most likely a spring loaded affair rather than a radial design.

Indeed, any local motor factors will recognise the part number.

6.0L VXR Monaro's had a chassis break point that meant that some had longer belts than others, make sure that the belt u get is the same as the one you take off, one size doesnt fit all and that part number is not apllicable for every car. The first time you realise will be when the belts jumps and shreds!!

Yep - did that, exactly the same belt used to replace, got the old one as a spare in the boot now.

BTW - Vauxhall advised its around £400 to replace both belts since the SC has to come off...? Bearing in mind the rear belt is fiddly looking I appreciate it will take time but do you really need to remove the whole assembly?

HHmmmm... can someone explain why you have to take the charger off for the rear belt then as you can see all the belt from behind so Id have thought you just untension it and put a new one on.. ?irked If not then its another job for Mr Monkfish.

So the air intake stays at the front, otherwise the air intake would be at the back and air would get hotter!

Even with the tensioner off the belt still wont slide off. Still got to be worked over the retaining ridge on the pulley. Its not impossible in situ, but your fingers will hurt and it will take twice as long. Does it actually need doing? Maybe just tighten it up?

Its damaged on the edge so I want it done to be safe as some tension has gone where its nicked. Will get it done when I can get it to you for a service. Think its been like it from new but there is no chance of warrentee covering it.

My Maggie is fine. Doesn't really matter if the rear snaps as you can still drive the car. If the front belt snaps you're knackered as it also drives the water pump. This is why I keep one in the spare wheel well.

Thanks for asking

Still the same - but my bruising has subsided. Also managing to do a little bit of work to keep myself busy. The insurance has agreed a very fair figure on my bike so if you're in the market for insurance I recommend EBike.

My wedding anniversary today so my wife gets to feed me a steak dinner. Woo hoo!
