been running into a few probs getting insurance quotes for my monaro (eta 27th sept!!!) as many companies wouldn`t give me a quote as i have no experience of driving a high powered rear drive car. those that did offer quotes were well into the 1k mark with a few dropping to about 800 quid. even a-plan which seems to be highly regarded on here wouldn`t quote on me. but thankfully up stepped greenlight insurance with a quote of just under 600 quid! i had to go through the details twice to make sure it was correct. hadn`t anticipated needing experience to get insurance!

Well sounds like you have a result with Greenlight, and at that price snatch there hands off.

Expirianced drivers yes, I am with Norwich Union and they will not allow anyone under 27 thank God as I have a son of 23, and in my policy it clearly states that no one is allowed at all, apart from the named drivers to drive my car, and that includes any recovery. If recovery needs to take place then the car has to be lifted, yes stated in my policy!!!! and all that for £880!

most companies said i had to have a years experience of driving the car to get a quote. i would advise anybody to give greenlight a call if you insurance is due, they didn`t even want a tracker fitting and that was a stipulation of 99% of the companies i tried too. i`m having one fitted anyway.

I ran into exactly the same problem, the most expensive quote I got for an 04 RO with supercharger etc was £4000!!!
Adrain Flux came up with the best price of £1500, now that is still not cheap for a 43 year old with 10 + year NCD and only a 3 point SP30.
Having said that I decided to take the hit as it was the car I wanted; hopefully I can go a whole year without crashing it, and hopefully the premiem will reduce dramatically the year after.
The other option I did consider was to buy a lesser performance car for a year and gain the so called experience they required. But buy the time I took all the cost and depreciation into account it was cheaper to take the plunge.
Buying and running a Ro is never going to be cheap!!!!!
Those old sayings still hold true.
1. How fast can you afford to go?
2. Theres no replacement for displacement?

I was told this when i insured mine. I went from a Vectra 2.5l V6 to the Ro and the company i was with said they wouldnt insure me because of the leap, over double the BHP and engine size. Should have told them about the 3.2l V6 transplant really LOL. Anyhoo went to Elephant in the end, 35 full protected NCD, no points and driving for 17 years, all mods declared £800. I didnt think it was too bad as i was paying £400 for the Vectra.

Need to renew mine and greenlight was best price too. Aplan priced themselves out this time. Interestingly Tesco now does comparisons and I got about 10 offers. Makes a change from the old HSV GTS import which only specialist would touch. Mind you they were cheaper anyway.

So yes, try greenlight. Seem the best at present.

Of course the more that keep falling off the road, the higher our premiums next year.

I'm with Greenlight, and have been since I got the Ro in Feb. The most high powered car I had up until then was a 2.2ltr Astra Coupe. I'm currently paying £622 with a named driver. They were the best quote by a mile for me. There service is really good when I've had to contact them (windscreen repair, general advice etc).

Admiral multi-car for about £500 with mods declared. Year before A-plan for £480 but not competitive on renewal.

2004 Holden Monaro 5.7litre V8
Agreed value $50,000, FULLY COMPREHENSIVE
Kept in Forrestfield WA (middle/working class suburb)
2 named drivers, both 17yo with 0 years experience.
Annual premium $4,250 (ie approx £1770)

Nobody has ever given me a satisfactory answer as to why you pay so much more in England.
Remember, in WA
Roads are worse
Cars are more expensive
Driving standards are FAR worse
Posted again, nobody has ever come back with a reason why insurance is cheaper here. I pay <$900 ie about £400 per annum. Fully comp, agreed value $50K

Hmm, I went from a Puma 1.7 to a Monaro 5.7 and never once was told I needed experience. I've used A-Plan and Admiral/Elephant. How old are you? I'm 29 and pay about £750 fully comp parked on the street in a good area.

They won't cover you for a SC, the only people that will are APlan. I suggest you wait until renewal time to add one.

I pay £650 inc brakes, exhaust and SC. I don't know how much it will go up by when I add forged/stroked internals, cam, heads and throttlebody?

A plan has always been competitive.... you have to watch them at renewal, cause if you push them, and if they think that they are going to loose the business they will do a ring around and get a better price..

It's possible the brokers try a lot harder for new business. Every year at renewal time the quote shoots up massiveley. Always, after some leg work on line, I end up with a similar, or sometimes cheaper quote from another company.
For years I just used to accept the renewal price and stayed with the same company out of loyalty.(Stupidly)
I had agood deal last year on the wifes Astra VXR and when it came up for renewal in May ,the same company wanted 170 quid more. Ended up finding "Quotezone" on line, who promptly fixed me up with Norwich Union for slightly less than I paid the previous year. I paid 215.48 fully comp, two named drivers, 8000 declared miles per year. Didn't think that was too bad at all considering the car is not far behind the VXR8, well, until you get into the upper leptons that is. That bloody tramlining makes things interesting, especially when you press that naughty little sport button. Wife confessed to never giving it a press in eighteen months of ownership. The button that is. (he hastily adds)

to be fair i`ve heard stories of greenlight being a bugger to get money out of but i`m sure if you look hard enough you`ll get horror stories for all insurance companies. guess i`ll have to not make a claim!
