Ive had my 04 Monaro for almost a year now and apart from a few niggles, its been a great experience. However from day one the only disappointment has been the noise it (doesnt) makes! After all the years hankering after a V8 Ive now got one that doesnt come with the burble and roar as standard.
I know of the Wortec and Milltek system, but both seem very expensive. Does anybody know of any other (cheaper) systems or part systems that will improve the soundtrack, without it getting to the point where its unbearable on motorways... I still have to drive it on regular 500 mile round trips to London and back and also not have the wife divorce me over it!

I put a couple of straight-through back sections on mine, bought froma fellow PH-er, and it sounds quite nice now and not obtrusive. You should be able to get those made up at a specialist exhaust place for a few hundred quid.

i'm going for side exits.. if you want custom tips, they're about £100 each, then you need to go to a stainless exhaust specialist and get them fitted.

as said in previous posts, most cost effective option is to get a couple of straight through pipes made up and fitted while you wait.

How about electrically operated cut outs? Take a look at these:
