i have asked this question in a different format before however, if for example i had a custom exhaust made for my VXR had it fitted and say for example the cam belt went on the engine and it blew or not so extreme the water pump failed, could vauxhall say you fitted a non standard part to the car which could have contributed to the failure so we are not paying?

unproven could they say this or would they have to come up with proof?

i know if i get wortec fitted monkfish take the risk so to speak but the cost of the first upgrade pack is pretty expensive compared to a quality custom made system

First of all, you dont have a cambelt. and the exhaust wouldnt make the water pump go.
But i can see what your your trying to get at.
They should still pay out for all other work aslong as the exhaust didnt course make another part fall.
Thats the way i see it. Ive got a none standard exhaust on my vxr and i still get work done for free.

i was quoting examples i know the water pump wouldnt go by fitting an exhaust!!!!

but you got the point i was making.

my point was do they need to prove that the non standard part in question caused the engine or whatever to fail or can the simply say its modified and as such tough?

I haven't seen any instances of Vauxhall refusing warranty works on Monaros due to mods. Bearing in mind a number of cars have been modified I don't think I'd be losing sleep over it. YMMV of course. I've only had Milltek and Wortec systems on mine and I think they are a 'known' quantity.

i suppose you are right to be honest i would have thought the main issue would be if modifications were fitted and the engine went pop in a big way

well VX used to offer a miltek system in the catalogue and when you see the work and effort Wortec have put in on their systems and maps it shouldnt be an issue. In fact, Wortec were also used officially on some special eddition you may have heard of wink

Hopefully mine won't experience the Big Bang. But if it does and they don't cover it, then I'll dig into the piggybank and stick in a new lump. Might be a good chance to do some more tuning :-)

I am sure that it is not so bad now that the European block exemption has now ceased for the Motor trade. You can even get your car service elswhere, yes, even at a Ford garage, and it would not affect your warranty, providing certain conditions are met.

That, unfortunately is not the case in New Zealand (don't know about Oz?). I was not allowed to have anything altered or fitted to my car on pain of losing the 3 year warranty, if it didn't come from HSV. They even made you service the car at 10000k's (6000 miles) even thought fitted with an relatively hi spec (read very expensive) synthetic oil.
