Whats the nobbly bit for on the key?. Sometimes my key will open the car from a distance and sometimes i have to point it at the front windscreen? Any clues?

I reckon it conducts electrickery into the barrel, coz if you put a bit of paper between it and the barrel it don't work !!!!!

i beleive the imobilizer chip inside the key fob runs through the metal lump into the ignition barrel

IIRC there are 15 different resister types the nob makes a circuit which needs to match the one saved in the BCM.
