HID Lights - which kit and where from?
Discussion
I'm doing a lot of driving on small A roads, each night when on the A61 I feel as though the Ro has muddy lights I as can see next to nothing!
I want HID (as my old S2000 used to have them and I loved them) fitting but I wasn't sure what kit I need.
Has anyone on here had them, got them or fitted them?
What bulbs do I need, I've heard it's useless having MAIN HIDs as they take too long to warm up, however I was wondering whether it's bets off to get the fogs too?
Any sites we can order from? Most HID sites don't even list the Monaro, useless.
thanks in advance

*Cars in Darlington Vauxhall today being looked at for the idle hiccup and burning on clutch change. I have a 1.3 diesel Corsa ... woot woot ... POWA! 75mpg, ouch.

I fitted a set to mine and in fact they were not as good as properly-adjusted standard lights. I fitted them to a car with projector-type headlamps in the past, and like you, was sufficiently impressed that I bought them for the Monaro, but the beam spread was very vague and there was no focussed light anywhere.
My lights are now set up properly with standard bulbs and are fine. Fitting the 65w bulbs from the main beam would help more but you would need to paint the tips with HT paint to get the same beam throw again.
On that basis I guess I'm open to offers for a set of HIDs to fit the Monaro (dip beams are either H9 or H11, and vice versa - these fit the dips) although I'd need to remove the ballasts from the engine bay where I left them. Think I paid the thick end of £100 for them.
(Edited to resolve my apparent keyboard dyslexia)

you have tried the headlight mod first before going for HID? And by making Jesus cry I meant me and other road users, they are quire possibly the most annoying and inconsiderate modification to a car 2nd to blue light washer jets. Would you drive with your full beams on at night, in traffic?
If you haven't tried the headlight mod I'd try that first

I haven't tried the HL Mod, haven't seen it listed and didn't find anything when searching, would you be so kind as to [pun mode] enlighten me [/pun mode] please. b'dum chaaaaaa
I think you'll find that the most annoying and inconsiderate modification is the 'fog light' mod, when drivers insist on turning them on and then using side lights, simply to prove they have fogs and they work, or there is the torrent of half wits who have one broken head light so they use their fog lights and remaining headlight as if it's OK to do so without fixing the other one.
I would suggest that light up valve caps on wheels are more annoying than bonnet mounted w@nker lights though.
lol yeah forgot about those bloody valve lights and fogs
OK for lightbulb mod the first is a piece of piss and will cost you no more than 2 minutes of your time!
Find a level area with a nice flat wall at the end of it. Park a few meters away and turn lights on, you then open the bonet and with a cross head screw driver you can raise the beam hight. I'll see if I can find the thread but its very easy. I used about 3 or 4 clicks to raise them to an acceptable level, amazing difference.
You can then go further and replace the bulbs with the main beam bulb types, need to file off the plug clips (not done this as didnt see the need). Out of Aus they came with the lights very low indeed

A member asked about a HID (High intensity Lights like on Audi's) kit for Monaro.
A member said they had tried it but it was not too good better off adjusting the headlights up a bit.
Monaro's come with the lights adjusted down for the UK.
The thread from last February with a couple of pictures and a quick instruction was found.
A member gave an alternative bulb which is brighter.

Apologies, I was installing some software on my eee PC, it removes the adds from websites and allows secure/hidden proxy options. However it resubmitted all web requests that had been captured, one being hte submit of my question ... oops!
I've also sent out the same email to work colleagues twice now, damn it.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 AKA eeeBuntu on it, so much better than the original xandros build, pure rubbish. Tried it with the CD for the eee asus XP distro and it kept on black screening me when on battery, think it may have a dislike for the 2gig simm I have in there, either way eeebuntu is the way forward.
Some in house fettling and it's running better than my desktop and all on the go with a 9" screen and 7hour battery life!

Do the 65W swap on the dipped beam (projectors) as the HID kit is not much different. Then put HID's in the fogs and angle them down to the dipped beeam level and you will have really good headlamps. Had mine in for 2 months over winter before engine went pop. Never got flashed once by oncoming drivers. Paid about £100 a pair but bought 3 sets, normally about £110 a set. Ballasts double sided into return edge of front bumper but had to isulated them just incase they come loose or the light will come on. You will also have to enlarge the hole in the rear plastic part of the fog lamp to install the grommet.

Interesting comments on "Holden" headlights. Yes they do seem to be a problem and are quite dim.
On the HSV premium models HID's were an $1800 option fitted in the fog light position in the front vallance and operate only on main beam (in addition to the main lights). I have them on mine and they are fantastic. They do not appear to have to warm up and are pretty instantaneous.
I appreciate that they may be a problem with oncoming traffic and I always make sure I have them switched to dip quickly.
I think the main problem is quality, and there appears to be a ton of crap coming out of China at the moment, which is giving HID a bad rec'.
