wobbley crank pulley VXR8
Discussion
Car started to make high pitched squeel when cold. When ticking over the pulley looked like it was buckled. Took to dealers and they confirmed this.
They ordered the new pulley which should come next day.
That was Tuesday they rang me today to say be middle of next week before i get it back. How long does it take to get a pulley and has anyone else had this problem ?

Yep had the same thing. Bloody annoying as you could hear it when cold above the Wortec loud exhaust! Anyway booked it into Phoenix Vauxhall, Wimbledon who had the parts in already. Chap said this wasn't the first time for them with VXR8 and Monaro's. Took an hour to sort. Hope yours gets sorted soon.

maybe its just loose?
Doubt it given the torque needed to fit it. Also, if loose, wouldn't it want to weld itself back on once it started spinning. I think they are either on properly or seriously wobbling if you know what I mean.I supplied a new pulley to a chap who thought the rubber bonding was failing which may be a possibility given the loads applied by the s/c. If the bonding fails the outer part will/could wobble before it eventually flys through the radiator.
guess what! it got booked in for another crank pulley, the third and its not covered 10 tho yet! that was four weeks ago and im still driving around in a 3 pot corsa courtesy car to add to the injury. first was called after a week to say it was ready, soon as i cracked her up sqeal/grinding still there, so left it there not a happy chappy, since have been told waiting on parts and now a specific tool to remove the offending pulley, apparently they have had to scour the entire planet for this and now only half the tool has arrived. Could bear it if offered a decent steed and kept informed of progress, as it is i call often, never get through and rarely get a call back from one luvly member of staff who i assume works part time. Cant wait to meet the service manager and highlight his lack of customer service. Getting to the poing where im considering contacting MD. Thanks very much Lookers Birmingham
^ Some of that's complete rubbish. I change pulleys frequently and all you need is a decent hydraulic puller to remove them. I have the GM tools to refit them but you can get the job done with an ordinary length of threaded bar. I usually have pulleys in stock, could have done it in a morning.
ETA. Are they fitting them correctly in the first place? There's a massive torque setting to do this. Do previous invoices itemise a new pulley bolt? They should do!

^ It's 240lb/ft using the old bolt which you then throw away. Then you do a visual check to see the pulleys sitting correctly. Then you fit a new bolt, torque to 37lbs foot and add on 140 degrees of angle iirc.
I read the manual everytime I do this to ensure it's done correctly and I use a GM digital torque/angle meter together with a 4 foot breaker bar and a flywheel locking tool. The starter motor has to be removed. I can't afford to have a pulley wobbling and flying off the engine!
ETA. Just had a thought. They haven't buggered the end of the crank by letting the pulley spin to much? If they have it'll need pinning or some other remedial work.

We originally took our First Monaro to Lookers when it broke. Hence why we travel to Wales to get any warranty work done. I'll tell you more about it at a meet next years, as don't wanna put what i really feel on the Internet. Contact the MD don't waist time with receptionists

TBH this is complete b
ks you are being fed. I did a cam change a month ago or so and I took the pulley off with a little 3 leg threaded puller from the workshop, easy. Pushed it back on with threaded rod and washers.I think Boosted is right, I think they have buggered the crank somehow. So sorry for you, it's just bad news for new car owners.
^^Either supply them with the pulley removal tool or remove the car and send it here or elsewhere. The job could be done in a few hours. I have the GM factory toolkit and the puller is a perfectly normal 3 legged puller which attaches to the inside of the balancer. It works a treat. You could buy something similar from a local motor factors which may not last as long but you only need it to work once.
There must be some other reason for the delay imo. Why don't you drop in and take a look at the car?
ETA, you don't need a hydraulic puller either, just an ordinary internal puller.
