High Ratio Rockers - Good or Bad?
Discussion
Im running 1.8's and put down 360rwhp with just an otrcai (Stock LS2) when others with no otrcai or rockers were around 320rwhp so they definitely add something. Makes it idle quieter as well.
However if your engine is apart replace the cam and keep the stock rockers you will gain way more. I just happened to have them spare from a previous project.

Sorry for the delay getting back Richard...However if your engine is apart replace the cam and keep the stock rockers you will gain way more. I just happened to have them spare from a previous project.
I'm only doing valves so I don't fancy pulling the front down at the moment, although I've noticed that Edelbrock are doing a nice two-piece timing cover which makes sense, so maybe a job for the future?
Lots of opinions out there regarding after market rollers - anyone tried Proform?

That's a nice looking motor you own. How do you get on with Hp Tuners stuff?
Is the motor stock? Wish I'd have brought my Clubby back now.
Daily driver so only the usual intake/exhaust & tune. I also have LC1 fitted so HP Tuners allows real-time AFR plus the PC-less data logging is very nice! Also tried LS1 Edit but find HP Tuners a bit easier to use.Is the motor stock? Wish I'd have brought my Clubby back now.

Yeah check out my engine pics I have the 2 piece cover installed. Rollers are ok, Id be tempted with 1.85:1 ratio if you are going to do them, a little more duration and lift than 1.8 ratio ones. If you do eventually go for a cam though they might need to be removed again.
Do they clear the valve covers or is a tiny fettle required in a couple of places?Well in my case mr dremel was required yes. They like to hit the baffle rivets as well as coil bolt bosses. I needed to use the shims too, otherwise too much lifter preload. But quieter once its all sorted. Seem fine on stock springs too, still pulling power till 6500 according to the dyno sheet.

Just read your Mystery Box post - liners & stroker = 427?
Bought Manleys from Thunder recently and noticed new two-piece cover on their website. Posts on LS1 forum etc. suggest that 1.8s will fit without cover mods. but will check clearances on install - thanks for the heads up gents.

No, its not a 427

As for clearance, maybe the LS2 cam has higher lift, actually I think it does, which would explain less clearance with the covers. That was with 1.8:1 on my engine too Mike.
