Not sure if people monitor the VXR8 Classifieds...

www.pistonheads.com/sales/744516.htm

I could have sworn that this car started off a few days ago nearer £22k, then went up to £24k.....and now is £27,500!!!

Surely prices should be coming down - not up!!

I'd say smooth..... I used to get 28/29 in my 05 VXR without too much trouble.

On a run from cornwall to cheshire I got 28.7 mpg @85 on cruise, and it included a few fun moments. Not bad for a two ton car with 400 bhp.

That is correct, Earlier Monaro's had a lean cruise mode. Communist party members banned it because of NOx emissions and forced increased fuel consumption by mandating stoichiometric fueling.

Easy to get 30 plus on the freeway, set cruise to 100KPH, barely idling in 6th. Has to be done here or you risk losing licence and car.

I guess that's a difference between here and there... it's just a family car, albeit a rather nice one. What's the point of driving it normally?? My POV is what's the point of thrashing it everywhere? Someone was surprised recently that I hadn't hit the rev limiter in mine... why the fk would I do that? I bought it for it's lazy performance, if I wanted to rev I would have stuck with rotaries...

Because when I use the car to commute if I drive it hard I`ll lose my licence, so I drive it easy and never really get immune to the power.

That has to be done here too in all honesty, but some owners must drive their cars within an inch of the limits, unsure as to whether it's to prove to themselves that they can, or to others that they are faster/better/louder/ball'sier than them, or simply because they want to.

I don't understand comments made on piston heads forums by some people [based on months and months of reading], they simple can't understand how you can have a 400bhp car and refrain from driving it on the limit all the time? It's almost as if owning a V8 means you must own the road, overtake everything and mock smaller cars.

I'm not a lover of following stereotyped images, I'm a Geordie skin head who lives in plain sight of St James football ground yet I can't stand the sport, I don't get piss*d up on WKD or Stella and I don't start street fight, however I do dance salsa as apposed to watching football.

In a simlar manner, going against what a number of owners do, I very rarely go over 3,000rpm, trundle around and don't race anybody on the streets or feel the need to "PWN then on the motorway with my l337 drivin skillz".

I drive so steadily that I can see 23-25mpg around the doors and 31mpg!! on the motorway. All the time sitting AT the speed limit for the given road, arrive less than 2 months late for every occasion and still enjoy the lazy V8 power. I don't want to screetch up the lights or junction, break hard, pull away hard only to be stopped at the next lights whilst this other car cruises up smoothly behind me and gets to exactly the same location maybe 1-2 seconds later. However they have more petrol, more tread, more brakes and less need to service as regularly as the 'faster' driver.

Just so you know, I'm the guy that pulls away from one set of lights, only to creep up to the other set at 5mph ready for them to change Feel free to give me the finger and beep your horn and my slow ass.

Yawn, Just working my self up to answer this post, or will I, (two minutes later) ok I will, now look Monaro's have a bad boy image, and therefore it is up to the few of us to keep these cars in that catergory. I have to say I have never seen the inside of my local nick so many times since owning this car!!!!!!

Maybe I am too young for this car???

Often wondered why I could never get near the magic 30mpg in my 05 as was regularly attainable in my 04. Any idea why the VXR8 is worse? Is it the extra 300cc perhaps?
