BP Ultimate 102 Octane
Discussion
I must have been mad !!!!!!
I just paid £120 for 50 liters of BP's new 102 octane fuel just to see if its really worth massive £2.42 a liter.
My tank only had 10 miles left on the range so i dont think the 102 octane hasnt been watered down at all.
Yes its loads better that Ulimate 98 and is smoother when you floor it and theres more power when the SC kicks in and spins the rear wheels. But the rear wheels did spin really easy in 3rd at over 80mph lol
The road was a little wet so i backed off before i stacked it.
I really cant see how they can charge £2.42 a liter really. Maybe its cheeper to put a bottle of octane booster in every tank and maybe get a 102 octane that and it will be alot cheeper.
Can you imagine how much it would cost to use this fuel all the time..... Crazy !!!

I was at Brands Hatch last tuesday (track day) and they were testing this new brew with a new GTR and Evo 9, we asked if we could borrow some, but at that price.........forget it.
I dont think ill bother using again unless i need to go somewhere and get the extra power.
Cant see why on earth BP are charging that much for it.

Sorry to ask a stupid question but...
if your high octane table was done for 95 or 97 ron then how will it make any differenece? The timing will have been mapped to work for that ron rating. If you are running fuel trims too then it will take quite some time for them to adapt if they are already populated.
Are you sure it didnt feel better due to the cold air today + the fact you just spent 10 quid a gallon?!?

Pointless in near stock NA setup.
Each engine has an ideal octane rating, this needed to ensure there is sufficient time for the charge to combust with an ideal spark advance. Generally on LS1/LS2 in the mid 20 degree range. But thats NA.
For supercharging your timing (in a stock engine) under boost is usually not optimal due to increased pressure more spontaneous combustion etc so if you retune for higher octane you can run more boost and more power.
But I doubt its worth the extra £1.50 a litre.

I see where your coming from but it was re mapped after the SC was fitted and was running 99 Octane at that point. So i think my map can make better use of the 102.
Im not expert but it does go much better and spin easyier in 3rd
I think if i put it in a 1.2 cosra you would get a extra 1 bhp if that lol
