Well after I was going to sell my beloved ‘beast’ earlier this year it appeared that there were some inherent faults that needed rectifying before it could be sold, many months later & an amount close to its resale value for a standard GTS to rectify faults I decided I simply could not sell it any longer as it made no financial sense as I would never get the money back for restoring it let alone the thousands spent over the last five years, good job I’m back in employment.

A great deal of time has been spent on the car by Roger & his merry men at Monkfish together with many days bespoke tuning by Paul of Wortec, net result is a very civilised GTS that can do the shopping, take the family out & scare the proverbial living day lights out of me as once you are into three figures (abroad obviously) as it goes ballistic. The Vortech V2 SC now produces in excess of 10 psi & works well with the lowered compression ratio of 8:1 allied to forged internals and a CAPA camshaft & 8:1 rockers.

I need more time driving the beast before I get the courage to see if it will go past the previous speed achieved of 180 mph (European Motorways) but I know it is much quicker, 5th gear does about everything I want, it really does ‘pull’ in 6th for the first time & 4th is used for showing off! I’m not a person who uses the car for rapid acceleration from the lights, I just like to dominate at motorway speeds, and it would take something quite exotic or modified to outpace the beast now.

As part of the overhaul new fitment of AP front discs; LS7 clutch: 02 lambda sensor; throttle position switch; anti-roll bar drop link; heat shield kit for steering rack gaiters; diff flange seal; quick steering rack; fuel injector set (65Lb); custom Diamond piston; new fuel rails; new sump; welding to chassis &Wortec custom tune. In addition primary & secondary belts together with SC belt replaced & rubber tubing for vacuum lines and blow off valve(s) together with fluids (Millers & Redline). The secondary fuel pump/swirl tank & fuel lines were removed together with the LSV tune and best of all, no more racing clutch. Obviously there was a lot of labour attached to this as one of the pistons got fried along the way as it was not getting fuel past 4k on the original tune and with 80k on the clock and being in its eighth year heat & corrosion had taken its toll. All that needs doing is to replace worn drive shafts (imminent) & the car will be ‘sorted’ finally.

Thanks to Roger (Monkfish) & Paul (Wortec) for their understanding, time & patience. Anyone with an ageing HSV should consult the above for routine servicing to modifications.

Having a Mini-Disc changer fitted next weekend, well with 800 titles optically recorded it would be silly not too LOL

good to hear you're nearly completely finished getting it all done though it looks like you're trying to compete with Harry Oz for the most amount of work done on one car!!! Look forward to seeing you at a few of the BTCC events then next year, unless you're heading north anytime soon for a visit?

re the fuel thing - been reading a few US posts recently that suggest you can fuel up to the mid 60's injectors by simply replacing the in tank pump with a Walbro and then drill 4 holes in the bottom of the bucket, side near the base is better again but only if you keep tank no less than 1/8-1/4 full. Only other thing they suggest was replacing the crappy kinked pipe from the tank to the fuel lines. A couple of hundred quids worth max and you're good for 6-700hp.

Sorry did 2 trips to Scotland a couple of months ago, Gairloch & Huntley in a Pug 207cc, not my cup of tea but did both journeys very well.

What you can read into my fueling is no need for addition pump or tank, up the injectors and standard does, mind you I have bespoke fuel rails etc.

I think my first outing will be the Ace Cafe in Jan, hope to get to other meets in the NY too, hope to see you soon Bob.

There was me thinking no one would be interested in an old car that not a VXR LOL

SC rules over NA IMAO titter....

any car capable of 180mph hauling the batteries about for the stereo is very interesting. That and the fact as you have one of the first imports we're watching all the bits you're having to replace and planning ahead for our cars as they start to age
