Rules on number plates ???
It isnt exactly hard to get plates made. Its surprising the complete and utter idiots who make these laws, cant even realise that.
bad news, but at least they didnt come thru your door in the early hours looking to arrest you !!!!!
if it had been a speeding ticket, or lesser offence, god knows the trouble you could have sorting it.

Had our MINI Cooper cloned last year. The police turned up at our house at 7 one morning as my girlfriend was leaving for work.
They were really arsy with me as they had got the wrong end of the stick and thought my car was the clone.
Luckily nothing as dodgy as an armed robbery, just some foolish young lad had bought a seriously underpriced MINI in Wolvehampton.
What really annoyed me is that they gave clone back to the original owner and left my plate on it. So a month later I had more hassle when I got a call off my insurance company saying my car had been found abandoned near Birmingham.
I finally got it sorted, but I shouldn't have had to.

God. What a strange car to clone. Not very inconspicuous are they. Yes that stolen one was silver. Cant find anything about it in the news. I mean it is news isn't it!
thats what i thought "let be inconspicious and steal and clone probably one of the rarest, noisiest modern cars about!"
Numptys!

No you don't you can legally buy a plate in Ireland to UK specs & have it posted over. The law is an ass. My wifes Rover was cloned a few years back, the DVLA were a joke they did'nt have a clue. I'd suggest to the OP that he applies for a replacement reg ASAP, it might cost you £30 or £40 but its a lot less hassle then being stopped via an armed police unit after you've driven through an obscure ANPR camera somewhere out of your area. Who are they to know if you are the one with the gun or not, they won't take any risks to be polite I can assure you!!!

Pop down to your local DVLA office (google) with your car docs, including the tax disc, some ID & proof of address & a copy of your insurance might be handy. Take a crime number with you with some ref from plod confirming the problem. They will be able to help & do the paperwork there & then, allow a few days for new number to be issued etc. You can't ring them up though you have to go in person.
