Extra mileage during servicing
Discussion
The extra mileage recorded isn't unduly excessive - only 1.2miles - but the fuel used is. By my reckoning they've managed two fifths of a gallon, which equates to 3mpg.
Would they be justified in putting this down to normal usage whilst it's in the workshop (I'm guessing this is the type of excuse they'd give). I know that in the morning simply backing out of the garage, and letting it idle whilst closing the door uses 0.02g but surely 40% of a gallon is taking the Michael?

I honestly wouldn't lose sleep over it. For one uou're assuming an amount of accuracy I doubt the trip computer has. These things also guzzle a _staggering_ amount of fuel when cold. So that said even the amount of juiced used over 1.2 miles is reasonable if including idling / parking speed stuff.
I'm sure on the first few minutes of my daily commute I get single digit mpg as I crawl along with a cold engine, rear window heater and a/c on etc.
Move on!
