Got me a ute...............
Discussion
Well after raggyman got the Avalanche, (trust you still like it!) I have just acquired a one tonne ute for work, based on a VU commodore, alloy tray back and only 20,000 kms. Will post pic's next week when I pick it up, then trip to the Fish for service etc.........anyone want a Patrol!!........

Awesome... Mrs loves the avalanche... I am a fan, but feels like a monaro driving on jelly..
Do love the 4wd though, makes a load of difference. Apparently there were only 333 of them made..
The Ute you have bought, I think is actually the first 1 tonner ever made. Which is pretty cool. Do you know if it was ever road registered?

Yes it was, its a VU but when sold in AUS was a VY, also 4WD (yet to be confirmed when I pick it up), looking forward to it. Will post some pics later in the week...........Chris.
Ah cool, yeah, don't think it is 4wd.. to be honest.. It is a VU ute, based on the VX, cause of the lights. Don't think they made a 4wd one tonner, it would be a VZ if it was. I know the crewman was based on the 1 tonner, and some of them were 4wd.
How much did you get it for in the end? It definitely would be an awesome car that is for sure.

some pics as promised...............
Spare wheel will make way for a large LPG tank, put a spacesaver behind front seat. slight damage on the front bumper and bonnet, will get it resprayed and fit a vented bonnet.............
A decent exhaust at some point, will use my old R8 system

Sorry but i was just wondering what happened to the back of your car?
Chainsaw................

See i didn't want to be rude but did you really cut the back of a perfectly good car? It just looks like a cut and shut. You know front of a perfectly good motor and the back end of a pikey flatbed transit. Is that what you meant to do. If you didn't mean it sorry I've had a long day and didn't mean it

No Mel its not a cut and shut, Its the prototype one tonne ute developed by TWR. They reintroduced it in Aus in 03. I had the use of an older model when I was working on a sheep station in WA in the 80's, (fond memories)it is the one and only based on a VU chassis. I know it looks like a cabstar from the back, but from the front................and I am going to use it for work.........Chris.
Just a note to be careful with how much weight you put in the tray, they are a poor design and structuraly very compromised.
The way the rear chassis attaches to the rear of the cab is weak, and Holden had a heap of warranty claims so stopped producing them after only a couple of years.
Also, be careful with the diff, they can get noisy.
The pinion angle is wrong causing lubrication starvation.
Drop the oil and refill it with the diff on a steep angle so as to get more oil in there than specified.
