Removal of VZ Centre Console/Dash Trim
Discussion
I need to gain access to my Battery/Oil guages and I'm unsure about how easy it is to remove the Piano Black trim around the Air con unit/Radio on a VZ model.
Just to complicate things a bit more, I have one of ChimChim's D/Din fascias which, if memory serves (nearly 3 years since mine went in) are prone to the retention clips snapping on removal. Anyone removed one once it's in successfully or any pictures of the rear of the fascia to identify where the clips are? Also, does the stereo come outfirst or can I just remove just the fascia?
I know how to remove the centre console tray and I can see a screw at either side of the bottom of the centre instrument panel trim, so I know to start there but any advice that prevents me from having to make a trip to the stealerships parts dept to get a replacement part would be gratefully received. Thanks.

I have no idea(there's a surprise) but i did notice in your post the mention of the piano black trim. I didn't realise that its not very common in Monaros. I know it comes in silver and graphite as I've seen this on a couple of Ro's on drag days. I don't think I've seen another other than mine.

2005 VZ CV8's (Our models with Nostrils etc)all have the Black Piano trim. 2005 VZ VXR's have silver trim. VY's had the mock silver carbon fibre look.
Your so clever. While your here i took my car to my local car "specialist" and explained to him how to take my volume buttons out. You know, by removing the airbag. He got in the car with a screwdriver and said "i cant do it, you probably need to order a special tool from Holden" "i ain't seen one like this before"
I then asked him kindly to STOP TRYING WITH THE SCREWDRIVER

4 clips (2 either side top/bottom)on the rear of the bag assembly on the steering wheel. Bit awkward to get to, but can be done by jiggling the steering wheel around. Then, a screwdriver (simple flat blade type) is used to prise the clips - not rocket science..

Hope he disconnected the battery before he decided to prat about with it..
These dials are the ones in the top of the dash? Cars that are not fitted with dials there have a cover that is clipped on like the clips for the gearlever surround. Note this is just the top square shaped piece. I am not sure if the dials surround is not just clipped on too??? You could try that first. Find somebody with long fingernails!
I helped remove the dash surround from a friends car a few weeks ago. Most of the stuff is clipped in.
The gearlever/electric window surround needs to come off first as you have done. There is a screw in the little storage area under the stereo. That sometimes gets forgotten.
The next thing is the stereo has to come out or it does on a stock car. It normally involves special U shaped bits of metal to get out. These are put into the holes on either side of the stereo and then you push them outwards to release the clips. It sometimes involves a bit of force to actually release the plug behnd the stereo. Once the stereo is out the screws under the stereo can come out. The rest of the dash clips in like the gear lever surround. I am not sure on climate control cars if that part of the dash has to come out first. I would specualte not.
I do actually have the fitting instructions for the gauges to a VYII series car but that had different wiring for the actual dials.
