It's about time for a new set of tyres for my CV8. I currently have 235/40 R18 Bridgestones.

Question 1 - tyres in this size are available with a load index of 91 and 95. Is it worth fitting extra load 95 tyres?

Question 2 - for those who've tried Continental Conti Sport Contact tyres, Contact 2 is asymetric, Contact 3 isn't - any preference?

ta very much chaps (and Mel wink )

Just looking at the options really. I may be able to get a deal on the Continentals.

I think you have to have the 95 rated tyres, she is a heavy old bus after all ;-) I've had sport contact 2's on mine and found them better than the Potenza's. They might slide a bit earlier but are much more predictable. Its always a bit tricky doing back to back tests on tyres cos you generally take off a knackered set and replace with new so they will always feel better, but i'll be putting on another set of continentals when these are done

Dont waste your money on the kumo's the walls start to collapse under high speed and sharp cornering. I have had them on other cars I've owned and they have always been fine, but I just don't think they can cope with the weight of a monaro if driven with enthusiasm. I will be removing them from mine at the earliest opportunity. P zero's are what the car left the factory with for good reason imo and thats what i'll be putting on mine from now on.

isnt there another poster on the forum that likes the khumos, I had never had issues in the past but then never had a car needing high load rating before. Shame if thats your findings as they are bloody good tyres in general

Do you rate them on the Monaro?

I've used them on a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo and yes, they were very good, and yes, I'd recommend them for that car - but what about on the 'Ro?

Been lucky enough to own a few Holden HSV VTII's and I've put the Toyo's on all of them and never regretted it

I,ve always rated them as a good tyre aswell thats why I fitted them to my monaro, but it's been a costly mistake for the sake of a few hundred quid more. I suppose it all depends on how you like to drive.

I'll stick to contis then, 255 rear 235 front (currently fronts are the OEM's as I had to swap with spare wheels)

There no good for a Monaro but was wicked on my Evo and 200sx S14

The Monaro's to heavy on the rear and the side wall can really take the weight.

Got side wall bubbles on 3 out of 4 of my Khumo's when i had my astra coupe... driven agressively but not a heavy car by any strech. It's put me off them, but maybe i just got a bad batch/wrong rating or something....
Personally i'm sick of cheap tyres now. it puts me off driving as you're always thinking " when is it going to let go" - i can drive our Zaf more aggressively and know its going to stick on the road!

Yep, that would be me with the Kumhos one. I can only speak from my personal experience, they've been fine for me so far. I don't drive broadside on public roads or at warp factor 11. I do however enjoy a spirited drive on occasion. Last week I went to north Wales for the hell of it, taking in the Evo Triangle and going up through the Horseshoe Pass. A little bit damp, but nothing to report. The event did serve to remind me how naff the brakes feel however.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy. I'm sure those saying they've had issues are being truthful, but I've not experienced any. Each to their own.

Edit: It's worth pointing out I can only comment on the 19" version of the tyres.
