Just looking at this now and doing some homework...

Have done a search but cant seem to find owt - really looking to see how the power/torque delvery low down is compromised (if at all)

Cheers

Give mark at rapid a ring he will be able to help you out. i didnt really feel any difference down low tbh and once u start getting past 2.5-3 it picks up really nice its standard feeling when u need it to be but just takes of when u press the loud pedal

Mark is kindly sending me one - which is great

Anyone else have theirs too...?

Just one thing that might be of concern for me is the 'turbo-like' spool up of this set up (gradual rather than low down?) and just interested in anyone's thoughts on this...

Also somewhere it was posted that they got better fuel consumption - just wondered (again) if this was general?

Thanks for any pointers to other threads btw if I have missed these elsewhere

Cheers

At the risk of starting another debate I would go for a positive displacement blower like the Maggie every time. Max torque delivered between 2000-4500rpm in my case which works brilliantly on the road, if not the strip. It depends on what you want to use the car for.

Dont be afraid of starting a debate I will be doing a lot more homework before spending out a lot of money -

Basically I do not do a lot of motorway stuff anymore - so want something that has good off-the-line acceleration. (I will probably need to get a $***ter for short trips around / to the station etc. as the Ro never warms up enough to get the O2 sensor going)

So when I fancy a blast and a spirited drive I want to feel the power going through...

Hence my need to see how quickly it torques up compared with the Maggie etc...

Don't know if this helps:

You will see torque on the Vortec builds....

Derek's Vortec

While on the Maggie it's there from almost idle...

My Maggie:

Both flywheel HP for comparison and Richard's pleasure

Forget the graphs, get a run in each type before you make up your mind.
(Should have come out in mine before I sold it )
have a word with Mark I`m sure he can organise something.

Very interesting - the power surge from 3000 to 4500 revs I would imagine difficult to get that power down too...(?)

So what does this mean in terms of drivability?

Even more confused! Is that CV8 with or wothout intercooler (if you know?)

Methinks I need to try one and see...

I agree he should get a drive but the graphs paint the same picture. Both cars are CV8s intercooled but different set ups. I believe Derek asked for mid range and that's what he got.

In a nut shell, if you want instant kick in the back choose the positive displacement blower; the other behaves more like a turbo.

I'll happily give you a run in mine if you are in the Bedford area?

Turbo-like seems to be the picture...

Now that I am on a mission with this - time to start checking these out - so certainly would be very interested in taking a ride - thanks

I will be speaking to Mark - great chap - so lots to discuss...

There was a thread somewhere about non-intercooled Vortech - anyone point me to it or have any thoughts on this? (or non-intercooled Maggie?)

if you have a CV8 with an LS1 you will really need an intercooler to keep intake temps low.

Yes I was thinking this - but maybe starting with a non-intercooled at 5psi (and larger injectors)and then working upwards from there...

The intercooling is accounting for a LOT of extra money!

I was also looking at the ProCharger option from the states...

dragonbal this is what i did 5psi vortec non intercooled and it feels so much better than stock i went for the vortec because i have a auto and kits like the maggie would defo kill it due to the torque low down the car feels the exact same at low revs but has plenty of power when u need it the car pulls so nice it doesnt feel like the kick u get from a turbo more nice gradual power but it flies this for me is perfect as the ute's are very lively on the back so helps soften the blow i am now lookings at intercoolers to fit myself then just a quick visit back to mark get the boost upped and remap. www.aseturbo.com.au these guys will ship a intercooler over for the vortec kit for $1300au other wise i have been looking on fleebay for a intercooler and pipework kit.

...and breathe...

Did you get this dyno'ed? How does it go off the line? How is consumption etc?

Where are you Jason? Might ask for a lift in yours at some stage

Sorry will try with full stops.

Dyno'd at 492bhp not the highest but feels awsome as the standard ute is only 225kw or 300bhp, like i said previously i am now looking at intercooler and also headers and exhaust as its all completely stock at the mo..

Off the line it feels the same untill the revs start to rise then it just keeps pulling all the way off the speedo its a nice smooth pull the wheels will spin in the dry on gear change and on boost in 1st and 2nd and thats through an auto with torque reduction on the gear changes set at about 45/50%

i am based in brum where are you ? ur welcome to come for a drive

All in all best money i could have spent and i am very happy with it, i can also recomend mark he is a genuine nice guy and a someone who knows these superchargers inside out

O finally budget for brakes you will defo need them

Thanks for that - I will certainly give you a shout to check it out if OK...

I will PM you my telephone number

I asssume that 492 is fly estimate...did they give you a at-the-wheels figure?

Anyone else any closer than Jason have one on a manual?

Well after input from above (many thanks as always!) and speaking to Mark it looks like a Maggie is the way forward...

Nothing against the Vortech - but I need more off-the-line and the positive displacment system will suit my driving better.

Now lets see...where did I put that piggy-bank and postal order from Gran? smile
