Now I've had my monster engine rebuild I've found my current Wortec cat back is waaaayyyyyy too loud. With the cam and new heads it sounds like a Spitfire at idle and the General Lee on full throttle.

I'm looking for a cheapish 3" straight through system with less rasp and more bass. I have difilippo headers so I could buy a difilippo cat back but at £1800 it's a lot of money after what I just spent.

I'm thinking of a custom made straight through system in stainless but it must be quieter than the one I have. Can any of you guys recommend someone in the Bedfordshire area? The pound being what it is the cost of importing is too much.

I'm also looking for a buyer for mine if anyone is interested? It's for a (VZ/06) CV8.

have you got cats, resonators and mufflers?
Or are some or all missing?

Making sure you have all in place makes a big difference. Mine is full difilippo and isnt too bad. Roger has heard it.
No drone etc either.

Everything is in place except the plates to run it in "quiet" mode. I've been warned not to put them in as it will cause problems and I risk burning the exhaust valves. It was fine but the engine now flows so much gas the noise has doubled in volume.

Also missing my new cats at the moment as one of them got damaged and needs to be replaced after Xmas. I cannot imagine they will make that much difference will they?

Wormus unlike the wortec my miltek is straight through all the way but then has a large silencer on the rear rather tna the two smaller ones. They are both straight (when you have your mid pipes out) but the larger rear silencer makes the sound quieter and less raspy. I'm actually looking to get a swappable rear silencer so I can go from Miltek sound to Wortec loud pipe sound.

Might be worth looking at a larger rear silencer option. Yours the single or twin exit?

Cheapest option would probably be to modify your existing, by either adding, or replacing existing silencer boxes with better ones.

Magnaflow do a huge range of cheap stainless silencers in a variety of shapes and sizes. Buying these to weld in, would be cheaper than custom made boxes too.

or take your car to the likes of Hayward and Scott, Simpson, OJZ Engineering etc.

If all they are doing is modifying silencers, using existing tubing...the cost will be much less than a complete exhaust.

I didnt realise the DF system was so dear though ? A mate bought his for a few hundred quid of WRC when they were about.

My original early wortec is too soft for me on stock - so looking to change this - any good for a swap?

Isn't a system that short going to be very noisy?

thanks for all the suggestions, I'll speak to Mark to see if I can get some new silencers welded in or get the existing pipework altered. The reason the Difilippo is so expensive is because the price of carriage at the moment and the weak pound.

The doppler shift should take care of that

Nah, mine is dual 3" its not bad at all. Quieter than some of the smaller systems around. Like I say its down to muffler and silencer selection. Fit fairly ok too.

Being a VZ, mine has dual exit exhausts (one on each side of the car). Each bank of headers connect to their own straight pipe that run down the centre of the car. Towards the rear they bend and connect to their own large silencer.

Having just measured the pipes going into the rear boxes it appears to be a 2.5" system. The rear boxes are already huge so I don't know how I can fit bigger ones.

This is what the Milltek looks like. Sounds like they are similar design.

I have a single exit miltek with a huge silencer too. The wortec uses smaller exit silencers and for increased silencing they have removable box sections further up just near the x pipe area.

As can clearly be seen. There is a huge amount of room for silencers in the middle of the car, as per DiFillipo.

Also, silencer design plays a part.

My rear boxes are straight through perforated tube type....most common really.

I thought by changing them to a chambered design it would quieten things down. How wrong I was.

You do have plenty of room in the middle for silencers...so adding a couple of good straight through types will make a huge difference.

DF centre boxes.
